I thought I would mention since you'll understand the frustration-- had a gorgeous, 3-branch bloom spike on my Phal. schilleriana. It just started to open. Amazing. Then? Earthquake knocked it off the shelf and broke 2 of the branches off, one being the main.

So my mom offered to go to a local orchid show for her and get something for me. I want something in the catt/catt alliance group. My south-facing window has huge temp swings.. stays always in the 60s at night as a low for winter, but during the day is in the 80s/90s in the summer. Great light, great temps. I put my phals in there back from the window and they always bloom well. I don't know what to tell her though since I will not be there to get it. I may ask for her to relay the conditions and then ask for the cheapest but largest plant I was tempted to ask for a vanilla as well.

I got a lil vanilla planifolia... so far it's just sitting there - has not grown at all. ( They are reportedly "slow-growing.")

Still awaiting the epilaeliocattleya blooms to open.... I sure hope it was labeled correctly and the blooms look like the pic.

Sorry, am currently frazzley in the brain and didn't really answer you. The 3.6. There was a 3.6/3.9 depending on the source and then 7 hours later a 2.6.

Wow is this unusual for your area ? Sorry about the phal but hopefully that was the only casualty.

It was. I didn't even realize it had fallen until the next day. It amazingly fell smack onto my chaise lounge, so the glass candy dish it is in didn't shatter. It landed upright and was sandwiched between pillows lol. All in all, it was a perfect fall! We get earthquakes every once in a while. I'm about 35 miles from the New Madrid fault. :/

WoM-- tell me about your filter south-facing bay window that Jackie Bright is in. I picked up Eplcs Jackie Bright 'Hilo Star' and Mae Bly 'Emy.' I have a south facing window for them but it's not filtered. I was thinking to set them a about a foot back from it.
