Hello Everyone,

I wanted to introduce myself to the community. My name is Michael and in June of 2011 I met the love of my life. Come this October, I will be traveling to meet her and her family. If all goes well, and I know it will, I will propose to her and begin our journey to be husband and wife in America. I have not yet decided if I will enlist an attorney or "go it alone", but finding this community has certainly educated me on many variables I did not know. Everyone's advise is most welcome and I'm looking forward to the future.

Hi and Welcome!! I am sure everything will go so well when you meet her and her family!!! I would suggest to use the resources here and do everything yourself. I'm not going to pay an attorney stuff I can do myself just as easy. Good luck!!!!

IMHO, I believe you can successfully take the immigration journey on your own, and without an attorney. This site has been invaluable to me and many others. I hope it will be for you.

Welcome aboard :) I would definitely read up around here before you go on your trip. There's things you might want to get from her before you return home in relation to immigration paperwork.

I met with an attorney too and decided it was ridiculous to pay an attorney so much money for paperwork. (I could be taking an extra trip to visit my spouse!!)

Welcome. We did not go through an attorney and basically did everything ourselves. We were fortunate to have a family friend who works for immigration and he did give us valubale advice when we were putting our paperwork together. However, even he told us there was no need for an attorney and it would just cost us more money for no reason. And this site is an excellent resource. :)
