If someone can please help me!!!! I was on a J2 when I first came to the united states in 2002, in about 2005 I switched to an H4 visa, I just got married last year and am in the process to get my GC. I had an employment auth. card that I got in 2002, it expired 3 years later when my J2 visa was up. I had a social at the time, which I still have. My question is, now that I have gotten a new employment auth card, Can I sign up with a job that wants to hire me or do I have to take the card to a SS office and get a new Social sec card????? Please, any comment is accepted

I believe that once you have a social security card it is your number for life.

Go ahead and get your job with your current number, but you will have to go to SS to get the system updated and change to your married name. Nothing stopping you from working with the number you have. Enjoy and good luck!

Use the same social. If the current card says "Not authorized to work without DHS authorization" the new EAD is the DHS authorization.

You can/should contact the social security administration and get a new card though, but meanwhile youcan use your current card. The number will follow you for life.
