Hello, We are trying to gather info to file AOS, But our co sponsor insist on emailing his I-864 / documents. He wants to call and ask where to email. I was told no email for that, but let him ask . Where can he call to talk to someone who can explain to him what he should do?

Thanks to all :)

I tried that Jill, but he still wants a number to call to ask. When he filled the I-134 for us he emailed all documents to the embassy in Egypt. I spoke to him earlier and he told me to get a number for him , I explained that I was told they dont accept email, He said don't worry I will find a way to get it to them. I have been waiting since March 1st for the info so I just want to get a number for him to call so they can tell him what he should do. Rich people are very set in their ways :( Thanks Jill

Why don't you find another joint sponsor and eliminate the drama?

It is unlikely that the adjudicator will accept the information via email. And there is little chance that an email would be received, printed, and inserted into your file at the service center.

Give your joint sponsor the phone number to the USCIS (dis)Information Line. At least you'll get a chuckle out of the exercise.

The only thing I can think of is that the sponsor does not want his personal information to be known - income and social security. The only other way to ensure that this is done could be an RFE which allows him to mail in the I-864 as initial evidence.

If this was done from the beginning, the RFE would have been received, and you could have made a copy and mailed him the original to send off. If it were me, that is the step I would have taken. Some persons are willing to help but understandably not willing to divulge these private information. I would even offer to pay to overnight it to USCIS so that I can know when it gets there. What do you think?

Exactly. Which is a huge PIA for the petitioner. And the joint sponsor will likely have to send a physical 864 and supporting docs which seems to be the issue.

The US needs an original signature on the I-864. An original signature from a pen in his hands.

A computer printout with his signature on it is not the original. The original cannot be sent through email. You can only send a copy through email. You can NEVER EVER send an original document through email; it's impossible because the sender will have the original in his hands after sending the email.

Thanks everyone! Yes I'm guessing he don't want his info seen by us. The USCIS number I found is 1-800-375-5283. I'll give that to him so he can call. With USCIS telling him maybe it will help

He will call me tomorrow to get the USCIS number. So what your saying is we should go ahead and file all our documents ( I-485, I-765, my I-864) and await the RFE for the co sponsor?

Agree. If he thinks it can be done, let him try. No harm in that.

In the meantime you should be looking for a backup plan in case he pulls out after he realizes he won't be able to do that.

If he's worried about you having access to his financial information tell him that he can bring it to you sealed in an envelope and you will put it directly in your packet to be mailed.

It can be like pulling teeth when the process is not known by the sponsoring party. Joint sponsoring can be a hassle. Easy way is through RFE. It delays the process but the JS will feel in control of whom they allow to see their personal information. We can't argue with that. USCIS should understand that SS#s and income are displayed on the affidavit and come up with another way to protect their information.

If he doesn't want you to see his information, then go get another Joint Sponsor.

If I was bringing my wife to the US, I would want to review the Joint Sponsor's I-864 for completeness before sending it off to the NVC.

You cannot afford to have your wife's immigration visa held up or denied because the Joint Sponsor made a mistake or fail to send in complete information.

The Joint Sponsor is entitled to keep his private information private. He has no obligation to share it with you or anyone else. If he doesn't want to share his information, then he will not serve as a good Joint Sponsor for you.

Go get another Joint Sponsor if you can. Find one who can understand that you are not interested in his finances. You only care that the paperwork he sends in is good to bring your wife to the US. Tell him you cannot afford a mistake. Remember, you and your wife will pay for any mistakes if the incomplete JS's I-864 is rejected - not your Joint Sponsor.

I would suggest that he puts the information in a sealed envelope and he can sign over where it's closed so he can be sure it's still sealed, or you could ask him if you can come over to get them, he can put them in the envelope to mail to USCIS while you're there and you can seal it and he can mail it for you, or go with you to the post box so he can see you didn't see/open it. A bit ridiculous but these are other options.

This is not directed at anyone, but I want to build on this.

Duh? I don't trust you enough to send you the I-864 and supporting documents, but I am willing to put my and my family's financial life at risk for your wife? I don't get it. I would rather show you my finances than be on the hook for your wife.

While I understand the Joint Sponsor's apprehension in disclosing his personal financial information. I don't get it when he is willing to put his ####### and his family's collective ####### on the line to reimburse the US government if the immigrant receives a means tested benefit.

I just don't get it.

Maybe he just doesn't want them knowing HOW rich he is? Or maybe he's not as rich as he says? Maybe he's worried about identity theft? I think my parents would be about the same... totally willing to financially assist but not totally willing for me to know how much they have (after all its really not my business).
