Hi everyone!

Do children under 14 years of age have to go to the interview? I am going to the Colombian embassy for my interview.

Thank you!!

Yes. My step kids were 9 years and 12 years old and they had to go to the interview. I think everyone regardless of age (even toddlers) have to go to the interview, not necessarily to be interviewed themselves, but for visual comparison (photo, etc.,). The CO asked my step kids if they knew me (the petitioning USC) among a few other harmless questions. They also asked trick questions about the primary beneficiary (I guess for the kids safety) to make sure he is their father.

No, children under 14 years of age are not required to go to the interview which is also indicated in the instructions package found in the US Embassy website in Bogotá.

FIFTH (THE DAY OF YOUR INTERVIEW):

  • Children under 14 years of age whose names are listed on a parent‟s appointment letter are not required to come to their immigrant or K visa interviews so long as their parent or a responsible adult brings the child‟s documents. Children 14 years and older must attend the interview.
