I just checked my husband's AOS and this is what it reads:

On April 24, 2012, we transferred this case I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS to another office for processing and sent you a notice explaining this action.

So what does "another office" means?

I'm confused

Usually, its in CSC (California Service Center) where they review or process your application. Wait for a mail for more instructions.

My son's was transferred as well. It was sent to CSC. It means there is a possibility of no interview. However, the process is not faster. Many have been waiting for 6 months and their cases are still in the initial review stage. My son's was transferred in March.

My sister and her husband were petition for by their son. My sister's case was sent off in October and she received an RFE for her marriage certificate. She responded in December and sent in her husband's petition at the same time. He received an interview letter and was approved in a total of 107 days from mailing the petition to approval, while her case was transferred for "faster processing". She is still waiting for the decision and it has been 6 months since petition and 100 days since the case has been transferred. They told her it takes 180 days from transfer for a decision to be made.

Oh ok, even if we live in New York? What's the difference with CSC and other offices... if any?

We don't mind waiting for his green card as long as he receives his EAD and AP in a timely manner.

With CSC, you have the chance to be approved without an interview. The ones sent to a person's local office means they will have an interview there. Some USCIS offices have a longer wait time than others and sending it through the CSC can mean it is processed faster and without the need for an interview. CSC was moving along a little faster, but has seemed to have slowed down as of late.

Your EAD/AP will still be approved at the same speed that everyone's does. Those don't transfer and all get processed at the NBC.

Maybe you can start looking on monster.com or careerbuilder.com Do your resume and send it out. The issue is accepting the job, if there's the possibility of acceptance. My now husband started applying and got a couple of interviews. For him, is practice, see? The last thing anyone wants is not to have job interview experience and, the first interview you get, is that dream job you always wanted. Is highly unlikely to happen, but when you're desperate for work any reasonable job is a dream job.

Good luck!

So, there's a 50/50 chance it went to either CSC or my local New York office, right? or would the message have said "it was transferred to your local office"?

My wife started applying before her EAD arrived. She was regularly asked if she had a green card yet and if not, she was not asked to interview. Some places don't want interview you if you only have the EAD I've heard, but my wife never ran into that. That said, she's landed two jobs since getting her EAD, and still no green card yet. The first was an assembly job, because so many Filipinas here said she'd never get an office job here. Within three weeks of starting there, she began her office job she had been repeatedly told she'd never get. I think if I hadn't kept encouraging her to work towards her dreams, she may have just accepted the assembly job and stayed there. Even if your husband doesn't get an interview, he can at least start getting familiar with finding open jobs and filling out applications, and maybe a phone interview or two. That's when they hear bad news about needing the green card.

And yes, there is a chance the letter will say its been transfered to your local office.

My husband has had a couple of interviews. True, one asked if he has a green card, over the phone. The lady never called back to schedule a face-to-face interview. Is ok, he's not discouraged. He continues to apply. I agree completely with shooting for the stars instead of a cloud! He came here with the idea that the job he'll land is as a busboy. A man that speaks 3 languages and has a masters degree thought that's how you get started here. I encouraged him to do better than that. His interviews have been entry-to-mid level, professional jobs. Nothing wrong with being a busboy or blue collar jobs, but that's not his dream. So, why pursue that?

I'm glad you're encouraging him to go for what he wants! There is a certain amount of starting over again, as in you need to build a work history here to. Few are going to want to call another country for references, or they may not believe a work history from another country. But its how you handle yourself that will get the job. My wife is college degreed, and built a loan business from the ground up in her home country. She learned that business working for others and moving up the ranks. Her sister has taken it over now, and was shocked at home many things she had to deal with. For a while she kept calling asking how to handle aspects of the business she never had to deal with before and how to keep 8 employees doing their jobs correctly. Any ways, someone with that much ability doesn't need to be happy with an assembly or cleaning job. She's 4 weeks into her office job now, and her numbers show her as being the most productive in her department. Her main trainer is having some issues with that, because he likes to think of himself as the best. I told her just kill him with kindness when acts that way and he'll stop playing his games. It appears to be working.

Absolutely there's a lot of starting over to do. That goes without saying. But starting over doesn't mean start at the bottom for virtually everything. Just looking for a good starting point.

There's a difference between being an asset and being a threat. Come to think about it, being a threat is somewhat a compliment, LOL! However, it can make or break. So yes, killing him with kindness and sometimes playing "dumb" as to make him feel he's her mentor, it's a good strategy.

In the industry I work in, being a "threat" is actually a blunt adjective! The "triple-threats": those that can sing, dance and act.

Basically. The ones that state for faster processing are the ones sent to CSC. If it is transferred to your local office, the email notice about it does not give a date or state which office. That info comes in the actual letter they send you.

Correct. If you look at a few of my posts 1.5 months back, I was in a similar boat.

Basically, i got a message on Mar 8 saying that the I485 was sent to another office for processing, nothing really specific about it.

Then on Mar 14, i got another email/sms stating that the case was received by the office where it was transferred to... This message was received at 9PM my time. I live in NYC so I figured this was california since it was 3 hours behind and it would be 6pm there at the time.

Then i think a couple of days later I finally received the letter in which it actually specified where it was sent (CSC in my case).

My wife received here EAD and AP approval on April 9 and received her combo EAD/AP card on april 16 (2 months since filing).

SO couple of take aways. If you check USCIS and there is not state which shows Interviewing/Testing etc, there is a good chance your i485 is going to CSC.

That would mean you have no interview however at this point I am worried at the slowness of the AOS approvals coming out of CSC.

THere are People on VJ who filed AOS from NY in February just as we did and have an interview date set in May so atleast they know for sure that there will be some result (hopefully they are well prepared).

In our case, we won't really know until USCIS decides to contact us and gives us an update.

Hope this helps.
