A mountain lion attacks by sneaking up on its prey. A gun isn't going to do you any good unless its drawn and ready to fire. If you wear obnoxious shaving cream or cologne, that'll keep any poosie cat from coming near you.

I don't need to pack a pistol to feel free. When I see someone with a weapon, I feel a little less free.

You fear people with weapons? You know what Freud said...

California is not going to give you a CCW because you are afraid of dogs or mountain lions.

Not even if you're white?

That may keep mountain lions away... but it attracts cougars.

I have dealt with vicious dogs. I encounter dogs on almost a daily basis. My brother has owned two pitbulls, as have several friends. Never had a problem with them. They get a bad rap. The problem is with the owner, not the dog. The other brother was a meter reader for DWP for a few years. They were not allowed to even pepper-spray the dogs.

It's those little toy dogs that are the most annoying, the ones that are all psycho because their owners don't treat them like dogs -- Makes me want to slap the owner, and swift kick the dog to shut it up, but I wouldn't do that because that would be cruel (abusing the dog, not slapping the owner  ).

I have personally seen two separate instances (and have heard anecdotally of a number of others) where beloved family pets, pit bulls with no prior history of aggression, attacked and KILLED toddlers without any apparent provocation and without displaying any significant warning the attack might occur!! That is what these dogs were bred to do! It is there in their subconscious like a time bomb and you do not know when, where, or with which child the attack may occur! Other breeds may attack as well but they do so when provoked and they almost always display significant aggressive behaviors short of that powerful 'death-bite' to the neck that pit bulls are known for. Pit bulls were bred to kill other dogs in dog fights. To do this they must attack quickly and lethally without wasting time on growling and barking. Unfortunately, they sometimes go for 'dog-sized' humans, toddlers without the size or quick reflexes needed to defend themselves. It is what this breed of dog does. Even the ones that seemed like nice family pets. Do you really want to have a policy that each pit bull gets to try to kill at least one child before it is deemed a threat?!

I am terrified of loose dogs. I have a weapons permit, and carry a concealed handgun to protect myself and my family, specially my kids, from two and four legged animals. What can I say, I'm a momma bear.

I am specially terrified of pit bulls. Go right ahead and call me pit bull hater if you wish. :P

Yeah, that's why I hate pit bull dogs. Happy to shoot one when cornered, always. I note I tend to stay away from those areas with folk 'raising' pits, though.

To be honest, as much as I fear them and dislike them, I don't think I'd be happy if I have to shoot one. But I would do it without hesitation if one ever comes charging at my kids or myself. Straight to pit bull heaven, or hell.

IMO, George had a valid reason to BUY the guns. OTOH, if he simply stayed in his SUV and requested a cop via 911, using his 'neighborhood watch network' ID, this would be a totally different story.
