Per § Sec. 316.2 Eligibility. 6) Has resided continuously within the United States from the date of application for naturalization up to the time of admission to citizenship.

Does this mean that one cannot leave US till the N-400 processing is complete and Oath completed? I am really confused a lawyer, I consulted said I had to be physically present on the day of filling then I can leave and come in as I wish.

Please advise.

There is no restriction on travel. Just make sure that someone is checking your mail while you are gone so that you do not miss any appointments from USCIS.

The continuous residence requirement you are mentioning above says that you should not take a single trip longer than 6 months; i.e., if you take short trips, you are still considered to be residing in the US but you are temporarily away.
