My husband has his interview for a CR-1 visa next week and we are trying to figure out the logistics post interview. We are both currently living in Malaysia, where his interview will take place (at the local Embassy). I have to fly to Canada in three weeks for my best friends wedding and he is planning on joining me, although we will not fly together. He is an Indian national and intends to go to India directly after the interview to see his parents before heading to North America.

My first question is about his POE in the US. We will not be together, as I will most likely already be in Canada or may have come to the US early (depends on various logistics) and will be picking him up at the airport. Is it is a problem if he enters without me? I saw somewhere that someone said that the CR-1 holder needs to enter at the US POE with the spouse. I need to know if this is true.

Secondly, if he enters the US and gets his CR-1 stamped into his passport and officially becomes a lawful permanent resident, can he travel right after and join me in Canada for the wedding? It would be from Seattle to Victoria, BC so either by car or short flight. I know that the CR-1 visa is normally a multiple entry visa and allows for international travel, but is there a specific period of time where he needs to remain in the US before he can leave? He would only be visiting Canada for 5-7 days and then will be in the US for a long time. Can someone tell me if it would be possible for him to leave the US right after he enters??

Thank you!!

Yes

Incorrect, a CR-1 visa is single entry only. Once it is used, the holder becomes a permanent resident and thus accorded international travel privileges without needed to obtain special permission. You may have been thinking of the now obsolete K3 visa which is multiple entry and allowed its holders to travel internationally without needing special permission prior to adjusting status.
