Hi VJers,

My humble regards to every one and i pray as much as we are patient trying to be with our loved ones,God will make it easy for us.

This is my story....I am married to a wife who is LPR and should start her Naturalization process by November hence, our approved I-130 waiting to get a case number at USCIS will not go further than just completing the process at NVC then wait for visa and hopefully when she completes her process,it can speed up things when her status changes.

This is my main issue,i am looking to attend a conference and also write an exam in June and i want to know what my chances can be being that i already have it in their system to immigrate.I filled my DS-160 correctly without any lies and also stated that my company will be paying for my trip even though i am the one doing so.Company have agreed to give me necessary document to back me up at the embassy for my interview. The conference will last one week and i may spend one more week before returning as i truly plan to return to my job(Sincerity). My wife was still here last month,so its not like we have not seen in recent times,we have seen twice in the space of 1yr.What are my chances? What documents should i take for Interview? This is my first time of ever applying for visa at the us embassy and i have never been out of Nigeria.

Thank You!

Being from Nigeria your chances of a visa are not great

Espeically since you are married to an LPR

Regardless, what ties do you have from Nigeria that show how you must return. it is not good enough to show why you must go to the US, the CO's are looking for why you must return, you'll need compelling evidence such as property, employment ties (sounds like you have that), investments in Nigeria, etc

Good luck

USCIS
August 12, 2008 - petition sent
August 16, 2008 - NOA-1
February 10, 2009 - NOA-2
178 DAYS FROM NOA-1

NVC
February 13, 2009 - NVC case number assigned
March 12, 2009 - Case Complete
25 DAY TRIP THROUGH NVC

Medical
May 4, 2009

Interview
May, 26, 2009

POE - June 20, 2009 Toronto - Atlanta, GA

Removal of Conditions
Filed - April 14, 2011
Biometrics - June 2, 2011 (early)
Approval - November 9, 2011
209 DAY TRIP TO REMOVE CONDITIONS

Citizenship

April 29, 2013 - NOA1 for petition received

September 10, 2013 Interview - decision could not be made.

April 15, 2014 APPROVED. Wait for oath ceremony

Waited...

September 29, 2015 - sent letter to senator.

October 16, 2015 - US Citizen

I can come up with property evidence,i am also serving in a capacity with the state's youth department with tenure ending in December,i have letter of nomination.Membership certificates and professional certificates of the organization am going to its conference.I know i dont have a choice than to speak the truth which is the best.If CO ask me,''i will say i am going for the conference and its an opportunity to see my wife, considering the fact that i know the immigration process,so i have to return to my country''.My company is executing a big contract real soon as well, and i need to learn some skills before it comes up fully.

What do you think?

N.B I appreciate your response,thanks so much

While I agree that Lagos is a tremendously difficult consulate to get through, you seem to have strong ties. This is also one of those cases where her being an LPR may actually help your case to a certain extent (spouses of LPRs can't adjust status).

I think it will be very difficult to get the visa, but if you don't try, the chances are zero.

what is likely to happen is one minute after arrival, he will 'decide' to study at some No-Namo community college and apply for a COS to F1 and if approved, never return to beautiful downtown Lagos. That is the problem facing him...the VOs know this particular strategem all too well.

Seems nobody is giving me a chance on this at all,i appreciate your replies though but am prepared to go for the interview later next month.I still have the believe i will go through,i mean strong believe.

Why are the Nigerians on VJ not saying anything? Hellooooo? A brother needs some advice,at least from those that have been to Lagos or Abuja embassy.

A lot of us are mean about the CO or VO,they are only doing their job and they have been trained and positive or negative, you dont have to be bitter about whatever outcome, there is a God factor in everything, either you accept it or not.

As others have posted, US Embassy is tough, you alraedy have a red flag since your significant other is over here, you won't know unless you try.

Sorry, no crystal ball.

Apply and let us know how it goes.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Dear heart your chances of getting a B1 are not even close to 50%. They will acknowledge that your wife is a LPR and never look at the letters from your job or anyone else. You will get a 214(b) denied, because you were unable to demonstrate that your visit would be temporary.

Wish I had known how hard it was to get a B1 when my husband and I were planning to have him come here to meet my family before getting married.

Our local area has a convention every year and we invite many well connected speakers that are in government or high level people of the community. None have intentions of staying. The normal success rate is less than 10%. Abuja and Lagos run about the same. Last year one of the sucesses was a younger half brother, his ties where that he had started his residency .

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Awful advice, especially with this Consulate.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

No one said to cancel your interview. By all means go. You asked "what are my chances?" We've addressed that. You asked "what documents should I take to the interview?" Of course take all that you mention having, but the embassy wants to see that you have strong ties to Nigeria. The fact that your wife is already established in the US only says to an interviewer that it would be crazy to approve this.

Everything you've said about seeing her recently means nothing. Just words and they carry no weight.
