So Noah, tell us what YOU know about the Russian embassy. You don't list any info about visas or a specific country that you are associated with. How much experience have you had with tourist visas from Russia? I have had plenty. I can tell you they will NOT be giving 6 or 12 months on the I-94, (where do you come up with that #######???) Typically it is 90 days. ALSO, none of our friends or relatives were asked to state a specific time frame for how long they were staying. The OP may have sent an invitation, but of course you know how much weight that holds, right?

Again, to the OP, you will be fine to extend her stay up to the amount of time on the I-94, which is typically 90 days. They WILL NOT cancel/revoke the visa if she stays up to the max 90 days. Feel free to use any and all of that time. One warning, however, do not use the 90 days and have her leave for a short time and then return for another 90 days. This WILL cause further questioning.

If you need further info or would like details on the several Russian tourist visas our friends and relatives have received fell free to send me a PM. Also ask this question in the RUB forum where you will find others that can you good advice unlike Noah.

Russian tourist visas are not the topic....it's U.S. tourist visas...Russia or any other FSU country is NOT on the VWP (too many 'mind changers')..statistically aliens arriving with a visa are admitted for six months...the validity of a visa is not relevant...but neosputnik does not know the difference.

Listen to some ill informed vodka swiller at your own peril....

For the woefully uninformed, visa validity has nothing to do with standard periods of admission upon arrival in the US, no matter what Boris says. He will not be able to point to any proof of his erroneous statements....because they are wrong.

By his first grade logic, those countries who are routinely issued ten year validity visas should be able to stay in the US for ten years, but they cannot....but plain facts represent an intellectual challenge for some.

Thank you for making my point that you know nothing about Russians arriving on tourist visas.

Who said anything about VWP or visa validity? (FYI most tourist visas issued at the embassy are one or two year)

Are you still sticking to your story that if she said she wanted to visit for a month and ended up staying for 90 days they will cancel her visa?

Still wondering how much experience you have had with Russians arriving on tourist visas.

For the intellectually deficient, 98% of all tourists arriving in the US with a valid visa are admitted for 6 months, not 90 days. there is no special set of rules regarding admission times for different countries.

and yes, if she 'changes her mind' to stay 90 days instead of the 1 month she claimed, there is a strong chance her visa will be turned into dust....after all, do most Russians get 3 month paid vacations? No. So whatever economic ties she fibbed about won't be valid. :bonk:

Again, stick to what you know.

Still wondering how much experience you have had with Russians arriving on tourist visas. Care to answer?????

I'm sorry.....where is YOUR proof that Russians are only admitted for 90 days? Ever heard of the word 'discrimination?' (that is a rather large word, so perhaps you might ask somebody to explain it to you)...

I've worked in eastern Europe, and in and around the world of immigration law...whereas you have likely spent your working hours scrubbing restrooms....while different countries often are issued visas of different validities, upon arrival in the US, six months admission time is the norm....only if the border folks believe (or don't believe) the story being told to them by the arriving alien might that time be reduced....

We had two friends visit us about six weeks ago and their I-94's were good for 90 days. Just verified that with my wife who looked at their passports.

You can stop with the personal attacks. It does NOTHING to help your credibility. A little surprised the mods have not warned you yet.

I have to say that I find it quite surprising that for a person who has apparently worked with actual live people throughout your career in immigration, you have the interpersonal skills of a beetle.

You may have work experience in immigration. You may have first hand knowledge of how often people lie, or misrepresent themselves, or try to circumvent the visa or immigration process. That doesn't give you the right to constantly attack people on these forums, nor does it give you the right to accuse people first and ask questions later. I thought that in the good ol' US of A, that you so highly value and want to protect from devious foreigners who always try to get here on false pretenses, one is considered innocent until proven guilty? I know this idea is usually reversed in immigration, but on these forums you are not an IO, VO or a judge - people ask questions, and want factual answers. No need to get nasty for no reason.

When people offer advice that is factually incorrect and cannot even find one shred of proof that their opinion has any foundation in fact (or law), I respond.

How many mind changers have posted on this site? numerous.

Do you honestly believe that one or two people on the planet commit visa fraud every year?

The OP asked a question which I answered....neosporin offered some incorrect advice which I have corrected. He didn't like it. I won't lose a minute of sleep over it. Fact: there is NO current U.S. law that limits Russians arriving with a valid visa to a 90 day admission time....the period of admission is determined at a POE by a CBP officer....just because two random people were limited to 90 days does not a law make....that is a fact.

What I have observed on this site is that few people really want to know the facts...they much prefer some Pollyanna reply that is exactly what they were hoping for, often with ulterior motives.

I am not referring to the parts of your responses that are actually about the original question or the visa process, I am referring to things like "that is a rather large word, so perhaps you might ask somebody to explain it to you", or

"I've worked in eastern Europe, and in and around the world of immigration law...whereas you have likely spent your working hours scrubbing restrooms".

Being intelligent is not only measured by the amount of facts you can recite about a specific subject - it's also about your ability to convey the information and message in a mature, clear and convincing manner. No, I don't think one or two people commit visa fraud every year. Neither does anyone else on these forums. I do think, however, that politeness and adult-like conduct go a long way, and that people who actually show some respect to others tend to come across as much smarter than those who don't.

But what did she tell the VO? That is what matters...mind changes moments after getting a visa appear as if the applicant purposely said one thing while in reality had other undisclosed plans....which then looks like what it is....not telling the truth.

what she told the vo is-at the time of her interview she stated is that as of this day that we are only planning for 1month but if certain things can be worked out than she can stay longer but no longer than 8-27-12 but he told her I have to file a revised invite letter

and this astonishing change of plans took place 5 seconds after visa issuance, which strongly suggests she had other plans which she failed to reveal to the VO during her interview....no one realistically makes such dramatic changes unless those changes were preplanned...that's just human nature.

Invite letters have no bearing on visa issuance...at least, no positive ones. An invitation letter has no power over a human being.

Given the woeful lack of accuracy in Neosporin's 'advice', his employment background seems obvious.
