K1 visa + work

I have a random question that I'm not sure if anyone will be able to answer...

I know there are certain companies (I'm thinking Starbucks, for example), that allow their employees to transfer to any other company around the world. Does anyone know if this would work with a K1 visa?

I'm guessing they would still pay you as a Canadian somehow... but I suppose they would also have to arrange for work visas. I'm just wondering if it would be worth the trouble to try and take on a second job while I'm still waiting for the NOA2, so that I can bring in at least a bit of an income when I get to the US?

Starbucks won't / can't sponsor you for a work visa. Baristas are easy to find in the US.

K1's are not authorized to work.

I am sure it wouldn't hurt to get that second job at Starbucks while waiting for your NOA2. I am not sure if they would actually transfer you or not (I managed a McDonalds back in Canada, and I don't think we did transfers...at least not in the time I was there). Anh map is right, you can not work in the USA until you get your EAD or Green Card. You have to file for your AOS first (which is how you get those things).

However, as I said, getting a second job while waiting to move here will not hurt you at all. You can make some extra cash and gain experience at a Starbucks, which can help you get a job at a Starbucks down here, once you are eligible to work. If you do a good job at the store in Canada, I am sure your managers will give you a great reference. I know when I hired people at McD's, if they had experience at another McD's, they usually got hired (if they had a good reference that is). I actually hired a swing manager who was a swing manager in the USA. He had to go through the same hiring process as everyone else, but it made it a little easier.

Moved from the Canada forum to the K1 Process and Procedures forum. :)

I agree that it's unlikely for Starbucks to sponsor a work visa for you. Work visas are typically highly specialized, and like a PP mentioned baristas don't really fall into that category. Sorry!

Thanks for the info :)

I'm not really sure if I have time for a second job if it wouldn't be beneficial for my future... I work 9-6, M-F in television production... but I'm just trying to think of what skills may be transferable once I get down to Florida. I suppose I will weigh it out... I haven't worked in service/retail since I was in high school! Probably wouldn't be a bad idea, I suppose... :)
