Dear all,

I am sorry if I start a new topic that has been discussed and if I also put this thread in the wrong forum. I would like to ask any K1 visa holders' experience in regard to applying for SSN. Two weeks after my arrival here in US my husband and I went to the local SSA office to apply for my SSN (kindly inform you that we got married one week before our visit to the SSA). The officer there told us that we needed to apply when I already received my PR status as I was supposed to apply before my marriage. I am just wondering since I read most of the threads here regarding the SSN application where mostly K-1 visa holders did it 2 weeks after their arrival, why is it in my case I need to wait for my PR? What should I do now? considering waiting for SSN after receiving the PR can be taking time. Thank you :)
