Hi Newbie

I did the interview a few years ago - its very straightforward once your application is with them. As long as there are no "funnies" on your application, you'll breeze through it. They basically go over it and make sure there are no gaps and nothing is astray. You shouldnt have any problems! Good luck with the interview.

thank you! We are so nervous and want to get excited about maybe moving but its so hard until the interview is done!

Do you have an actual interview or is it just giving the paperwork and if they have questions they ask you??

Sorry for asking so many questions!

No problem with the questions - i was in the same boat as you a few years ago and I havent looked back with any regrets since!

Trick is to arrive close to your appointment time as the security detail will check the time of your appointment and only let you in close to that appointment. When you go in you will be called up and they'll take your paperwork and make sure you have everything (i brought a full folder with copies of everything that I'd originally submitted - paranoid they maybe lost anything!!). They looked at everything and told me to take a seat again and they'd call me back up. He asked me some questions about visits to the USA, what my employer was and what my plans were for working there. I told them I was already applying for jobs with companies in the USA. He asked why I was choosing Washington DC when there are more Irish in Boston, Chicago and New York and I joked "sure I'm going to get away from some of the Irish arent I' which made him laugh out loud and said I'd do great with a good sense of humor over here! He took the paperwork and went off behind the scenes with it. Called me back up, made me swear that there were no lies on it and that was it! I was half in shock it was so simple and straightforward not to mention in shock I now actually could follow the dream yet wasnt sure how prepared I was. You don't need to be nervous. Once your paperwork is in order, you answer the questions honestly and keep to the point, you'll fly it. The only issues I saw while sitting there watching others go up was with students who told fibs about how long they were studying in the USA and/or trips they were making home etc. They were able to catch them out and as a result they stopped their applications - the agent i dealt with told me that my paperwork was in order, there were no gaps and I had complied with all the regulations so I was all set and good to go. He even said "Welcome to the United States of America, we are happy to have you!" - i was well chuffed!!!

Best of luck - let me know how you get on :)

Thanks a million for such a detailed response. I think we should be ok. I forgot to take a photocopy of the paperwork and am afraid I made a mistake and cant check it before the interview. Dopey or what!! We have told no lies though so hopefully we will get over the line.

I will post back when its done and hope to be travelling to the land of the free this summer all going good!

Thanks again!
