I'm new here and I'm sorry if this topic is a repeat but I just want to know the detailed requirements since I am just new at this. I just want to send all the needed documents to avoid delays. I am a permanent resident and just got married. Although I am eligible to apply for my citizenship next year, I chose to start the petition now and expedite it after my naturalization.

Since all of u are the expert to this, can you verify all the requirements that I need to prepare? Thanks in advance!

If you are an LPR and you are trying to bring your spouse to the U.S., you can file I-130. You can refer to this guide for help, although much of it speaks about US citizens and not LPRs. You may be able to change it based on your situation. For instance, instead of submitting proof of US citizenship you would submit a copy of your LPR card.

After filing you will get a priority date of the petition. As you probably know, the petition will not be granted for several years until the priority date is current. After you become naturalized, you can call USCIS and let them know and ask for the application to be updated. You specifically want to make sure that they move it from the "LPR shelf" to the "US citizen shelf". After that, the petition is eligible for immediate approval, although it can still take several months to process.

There is a difference between expediting the petition and updating it based on your citizenship. It may still take several months after you tell USCIS about your naturalization for the petition to be approved.

When the I-130 is approved, your spouse can apply for an immigrant visa if he is overseas.

Apply for I-130 as soon as you can. That way you will save couple of months by the time you are citizen. Once your I-130 is approved (could take anywhere from 5 to 10) months, USCIS will send it to NVC where it will sit until your priority date. But the good thing is once you become a citizen you will just go through NVC and not deal with USCIS anymore. Huge time saver. NVC could take 2-3 months, but at least it's not the same as waiting for I 130 all through 5-10 months, and than going through NVC.

Good luck!

Thank you all for ur reply. Yeah that is my plan right now. I will apply for my citizenship probably 1st week of february 2013 and hopefully it'll be quick.

So all I need to prepare are:

I-130

G325A

Copy of passport (both)

Copy of birth cert - it's ok if its not NSO right?

Marriage cert

Passport photos

Did I miss anything else?

And also we don't have any joint account, I only have photos and travel receipts. Will that be enough for proof of our relationship?
