Visa for my future-in-laws

Hi all,

I am a US citizen and my fiance is an Iranian citizen living in Iran. We have applied for K1 (fiancee) visa about 2.5 months ago. As we are waiting for our case to be processed, I wanted to ask a question about the procedure of getting a Visitor Visa for my future-in-laws (my fiancee's parents).

I know that we haven't got our NOA2 yet and only god knows when she will be in US and we can't plan anything until then, but since you all may have been through this waiting step (or still are), you probably know in what a depressing and sad state we both are :( , so ANY single thought or dream that has a small amount of happiness would help us now.

As we have to get married in US, we were thinking that it would be really nice if her parents (also living in Iran) could get a visa and come with her so that we can have a small wedding, here in US. I know that this may not be the right forum to talk about Visitor Visas, but I was wondering if anyone knows a case where the future-in-laws got a visa for the purpose of attending the wedding ceremony. To be more specific my questions are:

- Given my relationship to my future-in-laws right now, can I send them invitation letters or it only has to be from a close relative? (they don't have any other relatives here, so I am the only person able to send them invitation)

- Is attending the wedding ceremony a good and convincing reason for a consulate officer to issue a Visitor Visa or we should forget about it?

- Given the fact that my future-in-laws are Iranian and getting a Visa for Iranians are much more difficult than the other countries, what are their chances of getting a Visitor Visa?

Thanks all and hope we all be with our loved ones soon (F)

Just tell the new bride and her family that it is not possible until she has been here at least 10 years. That is what I said to my babe. Unless she learns English enough to come on this site and know different then we are safe from in-laws invading.good.gif

Generally the best place to start is the Consulate web site.

I know that this may not be the right forum to talk about Visitor Visas

Hopefully a mod will move it.

No harm doing so if you wish. Close relatives, well that would be for Immigrant Visa's.

- Is attending the wedding ceremony a good and convincing reason for a consulate officer to issue a Visitor Visa or we should forget about it?

Not in itself, if them being at the wedding is a major issue the safe bet would be to get married in Iran.

- Given the fact that my future-in-laws are Iranian and getting a Visa for Iranians are much more difficult than the other countries, what are their chances of getting a Visitor Visa?

No idea, nor will anybody else have one.

While the topic is relevant to the MENA forum, I have moved it to the Tourist Visa forum as some of our more knowledgeable members are more likely to see it in an immigration specific forum rather than a regional forum and offer their advice.

Dear Soheil,

Firstly its great to see you here, second I truly hope you and your fiancee get your approval very soon, so you can be together again ... No one but VJ members can feel this terrible time of being apart!

Anyway, having read your topic, I want to let you know that one of friends got married in CA last year, she was living in US with visa not even Green Card ... Long story short, she sent her wedding card to her family including parents and her Brother (29 years old & single), and their Tourist visa was granted and they've been there for the wedding ceremony.

I know the above feeling you wrote, in these months of waiting, only lovely thoughts and crazy dreams my help us ... So keep dreaming, planning and enjoy the moments of waiting, hence you'll enjoy the future with your future wife EVEN MORE!

Good Luck!
