GC admin error correction taking too long?

Hi,

I renewed my GC initially in June '11. Did the biometrics and got the renewed 10-year GC in September.

However, there was an administrative error on the card (one extra letter in my last name). Didn't notice it until someone pointed it out to me in November. Submitted a new application to fix the mistake in December.

It's now the end of April and my case is still stuck in 'Initial Review'.

One curious thing though. I submitted the application on Dec 9th but was visiting a family friend for 2 weeks in Mexico for the holidays (was there from Dec 20th to Jan 4th). As I had to send in my GC to fix the error, I got a temporary GC in my passport that would allow me to enter back into the US. On Jan 4th when I returned, the immigration officer pulled me aside for further questioning. He just asked me how long I've had my GC and what my parents' names were. I answered truthfully and he let me go.

I don't know if this is cause for concern or not. There were other people there and I haven't done anything wrong. That was also the last of it, haven't heard anything from the USCIS since then nor was I contacted for additional questioning.

Anyone know what the deal might be? It just seems odd that my renewal was spot on for 3.5 months (maybe even quicker), but this is taking almost 5 months already.

A friend of mine had to return her GC because it had her son's picture instead of hers. It took 6 months before she got the corrected card. It's as if it goes to the back of the line. You should be getting it soon.

The standard wait time for an I-90 is around 6 months. Sometimes more. Big pain in the butt.

But it says Nebraska Center is 3.5 months, and that sounds more feasible to me since it took my initial renewal even less than that.

I thought naturalization process was 6 months.

Nevertheless, I appreciate your replies.

Still, I'm curious if the "extra questioning" at the border has anything to do with this?

They transposed 2 numbers on my husband's 2 yr GC and it took over 8 months to correct with congressman intervention even though they admitted it was their mistake. During that time, my husband couldn't work, couldn't drive and couldn't even be added to my checking account. Sucks really.

Trust me when I say in most cases people say it takes over 6 months to get the card fixed (or just do some thread searches and you'll see the same thing). You also need to remember that timelines changed. When I did my K1 the NOA2's were taking 3 months, now it's more like 5. When I AOS'd it took less than 3 months now it's more like 5. ROC has changed too and VSC people are waiting 7+ months whereas CSC more like 3-5.

I doubt the extra questioning meant anything sinister. You had JUST sent your card in to be fixed, JUST got a GC (I-551) stamp and then you left the country. They were probably just making sure you were you and that no-one had stolen your passport to pretend to be a GC holder.

Ohhhh I see, I never even thought about that. Thanks for clarifying that, it makes much more sense now and it also takes my worries away!

As for the timelines, I completely understand. I'll just hang tight! Thanks :)
