SJG,

My parents will be interviewed on June 1st at 6:30am. I am hoping and praying that they be granted the visa since I am giving birth anytime soon (due date is June 19th). Regarding the letter of invitation, I have sent out a affidavit (a statement signed by me and my husband that we will shoulder all the expenses. And this would be for the sole purpose of them being here when the baby is born). I think I may have to send another email (as advised by the travel agent) for the interview to show that we are in constant email communication about the pregnancy's progress. How old is your mom? Both of my folks are seniors (60 and 63). They are both retired, no bank accounts, we have vehicle and a jeepney that they own. IS there anything else, that may prove helpful for their application to get approved?

Thanks!

Congratulations to the OP!!! Happy Dancer I strongly recommend your parents do not mention the pregnancy at the interview. Search the net, this almost always results in denial. We were denied and we had affidavit etc...... The CO will see it as your parents coming to babysit and will consider it illegal work.

We were totally crushed when my wife's mom was denied, I never imagined it would happen, we had prepared a room especially for her.

You may have to highlight in your invitation letter that your parents will be temporarily visiting (include weeks/months of their intended stay), and that you just want them to be there beside you when you give birth and introduce your newborn. I wouldn't suggest mentioning that you plan on having them over to babysit and provide care to your child since that might raise suspicion that your parents are planning on staying long-term.

this is a 'slippery slope' -> Who is sponsoring your travel?

and the Visa Officer knows better to ask this question.

Regardless, she's received a visa.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Not really. CO's are trained to spot lies and it's always advisable to tell the truth. My mom is an old woman, widow who has very little money to pay for a trip across continents. It only makes sense that we pay for her airfare and it's not a point against her if she says that her child will be covering her travel expenses :)

I did prepare a letter of invitation for my mother. But more than just an invite, it is a letter of guarantee that my mother has no further interest in staying in the US longer than ____(days/months) and that during her stay, we will be solely responsible for her living expenses and airfare. During mom's interview, she wasn't ask to show this letter though as I've mentioned in my post, it was pretty painless. I can imagine that the CO would be prying more on your brother's reason for visiting, since he will be flagged as a high-risk visa applicant (young, single, fresh graduate, unemployed). Granted that he is travelling in good faith, he will have to convince the CO that he has no intention of overstaying in America and that he has enough reasons to come back to Philippines, it would help if he shows that he has some savings, plans/proof of further studies, and/or shortlisted for a job.

I also found comfort in prayers :) Claim it and it will happen!

A letter of guarantee is absolutely worthless because you have no legal authority over your mother's actions, cannot force her to board a plane, nor do the VOs have any authority over you to enforce your 'guarantee.' If you doubt this, please explain how you would force your mother to leave when it's time....and what you might say to a VO who called your home and asked why mom had not returned? :bonk:

But at least she got the visa...

My mother was also interviewed for B2 visa. After several short questions, the CO took her passport and told her the interview was over (no "Congratulations" nor "visa approved". She left the building not knowing whether she passed the interview or not. She was kind of disoriented due to sleeplessness and nervousness. Does this mean she made it?
