Hello everyone! Immigration process turned out to be extremely hard! :wow: You are done with one problem and it's already time to move to another project. After all nerve wrecking paper work I have to find a job now. And it is very difficult. I applied for TONS of jobs, had 1 interview so far and all get is no or no response at all. :crying: :crying: :crying: I'm so frustrated. Maybe there is someone who looked for job in CO too? Would you please share your experience! where did you find you job and how? And if you know about any open positions please do share! it would be great!!!!!! Thank you very much! (F)

Well I would imagine it depends on what type of job you are looking for.

I know from living in Denver a lot of people post their jobs on Craigslist, others are specific websites. If you were looking in the health field you apply directly on their website. People here do tend to be very slow it seems in responding. I applied for one job last year and I had all but forgot about it, then out of the blue I got a call for an interview (4 months later).

And yup we are still in Denver :)

Most of my experience is connected with working with children. I have a bachelor's degree in teaching, but honestly, i would love to do something different. I applied for all kinds of jobs. I got nos even from Macy's and Office Depot, which r always hiring. I would like to get some customer service or administrative experience. And i live in Denver South. Thanks for your replies!!!

As odd as it may sound, this may actually be working against you (as shown by the rejections from Office Depot, and Macy's). Certainly with customer service, most Americans have tons of experience (look how many high school kids and university students have retail jobs). So you are up against that when you apply. Unless you can compete, you won't get looked at.

You may have to spin the work experience you have, to demonstrate your background in customer service and administration (after all, interacting with "customers" - be they children or their parents is still customer service). Once you've spun your experience and highlighted the transferable skills, that will help you get your foot in the door.

Have you thought about state or city jobs? Check the state's website and those of your local cities and counties. Many cities and counties post on Craig's List too. Being in Denver there will be MANY opportunities for you. And you don't have to be a citizen for the vast majority of local government jobs in Colorado.

I'm from Denver, just starting to settle here, and kinda hard to look for work really for my field. I usually try to find work using www.indeed.com or you can also sign up to www.connectingcolorado.com and they will alert you for the postings you sign up for. There's also www.usajobs.gov but on this site are federal jobs which requires citizenship.

I am hoping to like it there so we don't need to move again.

Good luck!

I am new on the Forums but was the Manager of the O'Reillys auto parts store in Taos New Mexico for quite a while. You have to go apply in person, not Internet surfing. The store doesn't pay a lot but remember, once you have ANY job experience in America it is not as difficult to move forward from there. It is the same with obtaining Credit too. Take what you can get to start the record, and it becomes easier from there.

And don't feel as if this is only a mans job, not at all! The ladies can apply as well. One thing about this kind of job, there will be a lot of shelf stocking and a lot of standing on your feet. It is the nature of the business. Wear good support shoes!

Colorado has a lot of stores and you will learn a great deal. Trust me..you can do this. Even making parts delivery to the Shops is not that difficult with some driving experience. For those that are bi-lingual (as most are here) this is a bonus! Spanish is the most common but I also speak German and some Russian as well as Spanish (English is my first language). You would be surprised the times I could assist tourist from Europe in my store with the language skills developed. Remember, you worked very hard and had to be patient to immigrate so don't give up now!
