Hello everyone! I've just got news from Cambodia about having enough income in order to sponsor my wife. Is this true that I have to be making 2500usd per month in order to marry my wife in Cambodia? If I can't sponsor her with less than 2500usd per month, can I find a cosponsor? Will the embassy in Cambodia accept this? Thanks in advance.

Attached is the poverty guideline that you must to meet.

http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/86991.pdf

Based on that you can figure out how much you need to make in order to file affidavit of support. If you don't make sufficient you will have to find a co-sponsor.

Also be under 50.

From what I've read, they don't accept co-sponsors, but I might be wrong, since my interest in Thailand is minimum.

Hello everyone! I've just got news from Cambodia about having enough income in order to sponsor my wife. Is this true that I have to be making 2500usd per month in order to marry my wife in Cambodia? No. If I can't sponsor her with less than 2500usd per month, can I find a cosponsor? Yes, you can have a cosponsor. Will the embassy in Cambodia accept this? Yes, the US Embassy in Cambodia will accept a cosponsor. Thanks in advance.

You need to make 125% above the poverty level to support your household count. Your income is calculated on a yearly basis, not monthly. Your household count will include you, your wife, your minor children, and other people you've petitioned.

For example; You and your wife have no children, and you have never petitioned for anyone before. So your household count is two; you and your wife.

Now refer to the I-864p; http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864p.pdf

For a household count of two, you must make at least $18,912 per year to petition for your wife by yourself. If you make less, then you will need cosponsor.

The US Embassy in Cambodia will accept a cosponsor.

================

DO NOT FILE THE K-3 FOR YOUR WIFE. FILE AN I-130 FOR YOUR WIFE SO SHE GET A CR-1/IR-1 VISA.

The K-3 route is obsolete. The K-3 is a non-immigrant visa that requires your wife to adjust her status after she arrives in the US in order to receive a green card. First, it cost more to file for the K-3 and the adjustment than to to go the CR-1/IR-1 route. Second, the adjustment will take up to 6 months. Until she receives her EAD/AP document, she will not be able to work or leave the US without abandoning the entire process. It could take up to 2 months to get the EAD/AP document. Two very long boring months.

The CR-1/IR-1 route is less expensive and gets a better result than the K-3 route. The CR-1/IR-1 is an immigrant visa. Upon entry, your wife immediately gets a green card. She can immediately work. She can immediately travel internationally and return to the US.

That's correct. Many have misinterpreted the question. This is not a US visa requirement being asked about. It is the law of Cambodia regarding male foreigners marrying female Cambodians. No cosponsors because it's not about sponsorship. If you are not Cambodian and are over 50 or have income under $2,500 a month, you are not going to marry a Cambodian in Cambodia.

Whether you can get them a fiancee visa and marry in the USA is another question.

Is that law cut and dried? Or are there ways to circumvent it? If a male US citizen aged 30 (born in Thailand to Cambodian parents who are now also US citzens)wishes to marry a Cambodian girl in Cambodia, would his heritage be taken into account? I should add that his US passport states place of birth as Thailand. He is not particularly keen to marry but does not want his parents to be shamed by the other family and would happily *go through the motions* and let the Government take the fall rather than his folks. His main concern is that on consideration of the marriage application, would they look past the income since he is of Cambodian descent?

I know the application has to go round a few places but who ultimatley would look at it and say yea or nay, is it the MFA or the local registrar?

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread, but I did not want to start a new one on a similar topic.

If you found this thread and read the answers, you already know the answer. Yes, that's the law. If you are a citizen of Cambodia, the law may not apply to you. Have your fiancee contact the Cambodian marriage office and ask.

If Cambodia would consider you a foreigner, then you'll need to increase your income and document it well or no marriage to a Cambodian woman.
