Questions about request for more documents

Hello there. I'm a very new user here. I looked for stuff like this a year ago when beginning filing my petition (along with immigration lawyers and whatnot). I came up dry. I guess I used poor search phrases. Well, now, today, I wish I had found this place.

Please forgive me if this is in the wrong location, this one seemed right to me.

I won't go into details about my filing, right now, it's unimportant. Knock on wood, until this problem below, it was clear sailing (aside from the stress of waiting).

My wife and I married March 31 of 2011, we filed for CR1 in May of 2011.

My wife had her interview on March 27th of this year. One of the documents they asked for, we did not have. A notarial marriage certificate. I had figured that the original marriage certificate that I mailed them before was fine. In the instructions it said to bring several documents (Affidavit of Support, for instance) that I had already sent in. Apparently that's not the case, and she received the blue paper requesting that document be sent in. We got one of them (apparently there are two very similar types here, hopefully she got us the right one). This is the only extra document they requested on the paper. They should have received it on April 4.

My question is does anyone have a good guess on how long it might take from the day they receive the papers until we hear from them? My wife is getting incredibly anxious and such, always thinking the worst about this. I'm hoping you guys can give me a better idea on this (as I'm also on a visitor visa in China, hoping to escort her back home with me).

I have other questions, as well, if anyone can answer those. During this time, several documents of ours will expire, most notably the police report. It was accepted during the interview, will there be any problems if it expires during this time, now?

My wife received the first of the MMR series shots in her medical exam, and was told to come back in 6 weeks for the second. When she was a child, she had those shots. The question here is do we need to go back to Guangzhou just for one shot? Today makes 4 weeks since her shots.

For that matter, how long do we have before she would need to take another medical exam?

And I suppose my final question would be what is the next step going to be?

I suppose (and hope) those are all my questions.

Thank you all very much.

ya, you sent in a white book in response to the blue slip, so that's cool.

as to the expiration of stuff, it's solely at the discretion of the VO .

as to how long, well, the casefile is in a NEW queue now, so it really depends on how many casefiles were in the NEW queue prior to YOUR casefile being added to it.

Suggest you call DoS Hotline (click the girls under my name, study left panel) and inquire for casefile status.

Good Luck !

OK, well, at least I know what's with that, for now. The phone number is a US number, right? Thank you very much for the help and insight. I'll try to call them today or tomorrow, since they're probably closed by now.

And thanks for the luck, too. We could use it, at this point, haha.

Ok, I had someone call the DoS hotline for me today, and he shows it as still processing, and no particular holdup. He didn't really know more than that.

So, a follow up on this, am I able to call the consulate in Guangzhou, directly, and ask them as to the status (if they even received the document, for instance), or do they dislike being pestered so soon? And if so, is it just the number they posted on the website under their FAQ? We had the number on that paper, but in the rush to get the document out as soon as we could, it slipped our minds to note down that number.

Thanks.

lol

I feel dumb for forgetting that even existed. Thanks.

Also, I just want to make sure, asking them at the consulate doesn't make them slow down their processing, right? You know, just because you bothered them about it.

Ok, just wanted to be sure. I figured it wasn't a paperwork, official reason, but more of a personal, "What, you think I'm not working fast enough for you?" kind of reason. I've met people like that, so I wanted to be certain.

Ok, so there's been an update. Apparently the case status was updated to show that they got the document in late April (even though we EMS'd it the first of the month), and has been changed to "pending". Might anyone out there be able to explain exactly what that means? Did the package only just arrive, or did it only just go through intake, or what? And what does the "pending" show? And any other relevant info would also be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch.

that date it late april?

that's the date it was added to the casefile.

what happened prior?

Well it wound it's way from EMS to the mailroom, then from the mailroom to sorting, then from sorting to assigning, then from assigning to the casefile. (Roughly).

Once it got to the casefile, some one made an entry in the computer.

It's still on the VO to actually review what's there.

Now that it's IN the casefile, suggest you email GUZ IV and ask for a VO to REVIEW what was sent and finish up with the casefile processing.

Do that several times a week until you hear back.

Good Luck !

ps - whilst yer waiting, please fill out yer timeline over at http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=131193 (and thanks in advance)

OK, thanks, I thought it was something like that. The late April date it had was when it went from the mailbox to someone actually noting they had it. Before I ask anything else, I want to ask, how do you know so much about all this? Did you do this work, before?

So, just using their typical ask a question online page, I should write to them and say something along the lines of "You have received my packet with the request for more evidence, could you please review it to finish the processing?"

Or if you have a better way to word it, I'm open to suggestions.

And I will probably fill out my timeline (to the best of my ability) after breakfast. Thank you so much for your help!

Dear Sirs -

You have received my RFE submission on case # GUZ1234889289 and it has been in the casefile since 24 April 2012. Please tell me when a Visa Officer will review the RFE submission and subsequently make a decision on my wife's casefile.

Respectfully Submitted,

George Festus Luigi..
