hey :)

first of all, please forgive me if i'm posting in the wrong topic.

i'm very confused about this whole drivers licence thing and i hope someone can help me.

i tried to find some information on the web on how to get a drivers licence in tennessee (i also went to the dmv here) and i got some information from my friends here but it's all very confusing.

i already have a drivers licence from germany. do i need to take any written and road skills test in TN? some people say yes, some say no. does it make a difference whether i have to take the tests or not on if i have a greencard or only the ead?

maybe someone who got a drivers licence in TN can tell me more...

I hs to do the whole shebang, sdmittedly the US test is a piece of piss.

I called the BMV a lot before my husband finally got his OH DL. They told me a LOT of different things. In the end he had to pass the written test, get his permit, then pass the driving. Might as well just go in and take the written because you have to do that even you are just moving from another state.

You should review the information on the TN website, each state is different when it comes to services such as driver's licenses and state ID cards: http://www.tn.gov/safety/driverlicense/dlnew.shtml

Under the requirements section from the TN site:

New residents from other countries are required to take full tests: vision screening, knowledge exam, and road skills test. They will be allowed to keep the license issued by that country.

Good luck!

Yes, you have to do it all over again. The written test (which you can take in german as well, if you want to) and the behind-the-wheel test. In my case, it took DMV a while to issue the actual DL card for some reason (had to hold on to a temporary one for months  )Anyways, good luck!! The test is easy!!
