Hi Everyone!

New to this forum... figured I'd get some support from people who are going through the same as me. Mailed all our documents for a K-1 visa on April 19 2012....they were received on April 20th 2012(according to fedex tracking). So my question is...what's next?

Your file will be forwarded to either California or Vermont Service Center. You're going to receive the first notice of action (I-797C, or NOA1 as we say on VJ), with a receipt number on it: starting by WAC if your file is at California SC or EAC if it's at Vermont. Update your profile and timeline when you know it, so you will be able to have an estimation date range of when to expect your NOA2.

Wait about 4-6 months with no news (your file will be sitting in a box)... And get you inform about the next steps!!

Yes, everyone is correct...just wait out this painful process. Once you received your I-797 with your receipt number (which should be very soon), you can register online to check your status. https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard/CaseStatus.do I have been told it isn't always correct, but it gives me something to do while I wait.

Good luck!!! :)

Hello/bonjour my fellow Canadian!

Lots of waiting... and soon you'll get your 'Notice of Action' (NOA 1...aka I-797c) with a case number on it.

Then you can track your case on the USCIS website. Link-------->USCIS

Then more waiting. Months! I did a lot of research on 'what to do next 'while I've been waiting. Looks like you are a Montreal person. Best to follow the advice of the Canadians from Montreal. After all, that's your situation. I'm in Vancouver, so I tend to follow the advice from Vancouver people as it differs just a little from the Montreal experience. You can follow Canadians under the 'Forums' category, and also under the 'Portals' category.

Everyone from all walks of life are helpful of course. Less confusion when you follow your own K-1/Canadian/Montreal peeps.

Good luck!
