So, I moved down here last September 2011. I didn't bring all my stuff, as we borrowed my husbands mom's Kia Rondo to move me down (as we didn't want to deal with renting trucks or movers). We couldn't fit everything in the vehicle, so I left a few boxes behind at my parents house (at first I was like, 'Mom, I have like, 2 boxes I am leaving behind', wound up being like 8, plus a guitar! Whoops!).

I am heading back up to Canada next week (yay!) until June 5th. We are having our larger wedding ceremony for my family and friends up in Canada as they couldn't come to the American one (which wound up being larger than we hoped, but still). This one is going to be the big deal wedding, with photographers and caterers etc. (I worded the invitations as a re-affirmation of vows, as to not confuse everyone and since that is technically what it is).

Anyway, my plan is to bring back the rest of my belongings. As far as I am aware, I can still bring my belongings down. Do I tell the border guy that I am completing my move? Do I just label all my boxes and make a master list like I did when I moved last year?

When we brought some stuff back a few weeks ago the border guard just asked to see the K-1. You have a year (I think) to move your belongings.

No, not if you are going with the items. You just make a list of your stuff in word or whatever typing program you have.

If you are not going with your stuff then you have to fill out customs forms.

I'm planning on driving up to the Toronto area to take my fiance to Montreal for the interview, then hanging out and packing up while we wait for the passport with the K1 to be returned. After that POE at Port Huron and hopefully smooth sailing. Thanks for the help, one less form to worry about huzzah!

Well, I am back in the USA after having our Canadian wedding ceremony (totally awesome night! SO glad we did that!).

Just wanted to give a current update about crossing the border with more belongings after a move on a K1. I know not every border will be the same! Also, we crossed at the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie ON/Buffalo NY. My favourite border crossing!

I apparently had way more than I thought to bring over...I still have stuff left at my parents house!! When we crossed the border, I gave the guy my green card, and my husband gave his passport. All he asked us was our citizenship, and what all the stuff was in the back of the van. Just told him that I was finishing my move, as I moved to the USA on a K1 visa last fall and we couldn't fit everything last time. He passed us our ID's back and let us through. Easiest border crossing ever in my entire life!!!
