Equal pay should mean equal work.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

I don't have military experience but the one thing I find odd about this is the assertion (and it's in the linked article and I've seen it other places) that the de facto front line status of certain woman containing support units (and the female casualties suffered in those units) justifies the integration of women into all combat units. That's like saying that because sometimes your hands get cold inside your house you shouldn't wear gloves to play in the snow. I could just as easily argue that it means you should wear gloves in the house, too.

Female Marines are the only women in the world that i would go into combat with. They are trained at the 500 yard line just like every other male Marine. Every Marine is a rifleman rifleman or riflewoman, no matter what you have between your legs.

Fixed that for ya!

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

Yea buddy but when the $hit hits the fan and I'm lying down wounded weighing 300 pounds and looking like a xmas tree with all the equipment- I would prefer a strong male Marine to drag me out of that mess as opposed to a female Marine. I am simply saying that their hardware is not designed for the rigors of battle. Yes, history remembers several exotic occasions when women were participating in the battle, but those were exceptions rather than a rule. But we're living in a weird 21st century when one's merit and capability in practice often mean inequality- AND GOD FORBID INEQUALITY.

I am a former female Marine. I was all about being female infantry. No one wanted to be a grunt more than I. I'm a tomboy and if there was something the men could do, I would set out to do it better. :P

I have since revised my position on the matter. I couldn't agree less with the decision. There are fundamental psychological and physical differences which make women different. Yes, we're equal, but different. I don't think its the right place for women to be. Sure we end up there sometimes because of the nature of warfare but to purposely put us there-- I don't think is in the best interest of women or this country. A female grunt POW is in for a lot worse damage than a male, and the males get it pretty nasty. I venture to guess the female will suffer more in the psyche than the males afterwards too, as a general, not absolute. Physically- the women who CAN do what a man can do fully are few and far between. If you're going to allow female grunts they better have the same physical standards including pullups instead of "flexed arm hangs".

I don't think I'll venture down the path at the moment, of how men's pscyhe is when a female is present-

It would take a special woman to carry a hundred pound ruck sack throughout SOI, especially being that it is at Pendleton. If i have to be in a fighting hole with any female, she better be a Marine.
