And a 'well educated German' with a flourishing economy may find it necessary to immigrate if he/she is not getting paid what they deem is fitting for their educational background, there's no upward mobility in their area of expertise in the near future in their home country or their country can't offer them a job based on the high level qualifications they possess.

Of course, but than he or she would try it the legal way rather than illegal... Sorry, enough with this... Back to topic...

duh.....you don't get to tell me what to post or not. And what an astonishing categorical statement you made....'there is not a single educated German who would do better working illegal jobs in the US than the legal ones in Germany right now"...wow...did you interview every single working German citizen in the last 24 hours? Impressive. Or maybe not.

You prefer to believe that visa fraud doesn't exist, that there not thousands if not millions of people who will do and say anything to gain access to the US, afterwhich they depress wages, steal medical and educational benefits from American taxpayers, while whining for green cards....but that Pollyanna viewpoint is dead wrong.

And yes, I have faith in our VOs...and easy access to State Dept stats....

A well educated German would leave a country with a growing economy and a strong social support system to go the US with a faltering economy and a social safety system that can barely provide for its own citizens, let alone illegals? Do you think before you write, Noah? The only jobs available to undocumented immigrants in the US are low paying and often manual labor. You're trying to tell me that is a better opportunity than staying in your own country which has a growing economy and a strong jobs market? Especially with a good education?

It really seems like the only reason you are on this website is to discourage ANY immigrants from coming to the US. Why? We are a country of immigrants you know.

to address the initial question

you have 1 in a 100 chance of getting tourist visa for college student with no job.

just let her file maybe she will be that 1 person that gets lucky.

Noah is right in that reality is harsh.

best wishes for you and your gf.

That's not true at all. Do you have any idea how many college students visit the US during their summer breaks? Many of them without jobs. And how many college students COME to the US every summer to work? Without having had jobs in their home countries before being approved for the Visa?

Roughly 80% of all tourist visa applicants from around the world are approved. The odds are in most peoples favor.

You do not have a single clue about immigration issues. Do you honestly think that there are NO German citizens who might be looking for a different life in the US? How would you KNOW that? Perhaps YOU should THINK before you write. I respond with direct thoughts on certain immigration law issues...based on an experience level you cannot match ....you don't like my direct replies....gosh...I hope I do not lose a moment of sleep tonight worrying about that....

Of course, but than he or she would try it the legal way rather than illegal...

There's a legal (but illegal) way of getting around the wait (up to 22 yrs for some) and possilble denial of an immigrant visa to the US.

Lets use your case as an example (or even the OP's). You go to the US for 6 months as a highly skilled professional for a change in scenery, visit family & become physically healthy. In that time you meet a USC and low and behold when your 6 months in the US is up you are married and adjusting status. Now it is perfectly legal to do this if it wasn't planned. The problem comes about when every Tom, Jennifer and Pablo claims that their intentions where completely innocent (marrying on B2 visa & adjusting status). What Noah is skeptical of and myself sometimes is how in God can Tom, Jennifer and Pablo abandon their family, friends, good job and property that they claimed at their B2 interview to be reasons to return to their home country?

The only jobs available to undocumented immigrants in the US are low paying and often manual labor.

 That's what you think. Lol.

Hi. You want the best piece of advice?

Tell your girlfriend to be 100% honest with the Consular Officer. Don't mention marriage if you are not at that stage yet.

People come here all the time on B1/B2 visas 1) because they are honest from the start, and 2) they can show that they have a good job and a reason to return.

The Consular Officers meet hundreds if not thousands of liars or people who try to be slick every day. Why be another?

;-)
