We filed a CR1, instead of K1, I cannot say whether that would give us any advantage for receiving the cases, though.

If you opt for EP when your file arrives at the NVC, it will give you a huge advantage for receipt of case by the Consulate as the transfer would be done electronically.

Yeah, I just meant I don't know if visa types have any bearing on when they process them once they get over to China. I know the folks I met waiting at the interview, the ones going for K1's tended to wait longer than the ones going for CR1 or IR1 in general, but as for this last part, I never thought to ask.

actually, visa type does bear a weighted bit, in the decision tree for 'when to process at the IV unit'

Nothing really can start until GUZ IV can 'open the casefile'.

EP cases for IR-1/CR-1, IR-2/CR-2, and IR-5, have the casefile opened almost immediately, and the interview date is set prior at NVC.

K-1 visa chasers, alas, have a whole nother set of processing to do - after the casefile is opened at the IV unit. One of the final things that gets done, is the setting of the appointment date. OTOH, this is settled at NVC for an EP case.

if one 'went paper' at NVC for a CR-1 visa type, well, they will suffer from the same wait time in the dead zone, before the casefile can be opened.

to the OP - call DoS Hotline every 2 days now, ask for casefile status. Sometimes is useful to ask for the last 3, those prior 3 casefile statuses as well.. as things slip and change internally.. in the end - if 'opened the electronic casefile' means the same thing as 'opened a paper casefile' in your particular case, then the P3 packet will be generated within in the next 10 business days (IMO).

Thanks for the info Darnell. I just got off of the phone with a visa specialist at DoS. She indicated that the casefile had been opened, and that the P3 packet was mailed yesterday from the GUZ. Sounds like we are ready to try the GUZ P3 shortcut to me. What is your opinion? I am going to email my better half and have her send off her P3 packet....... It sounds like things are moving along....... :dancing:

Hello Darnell,

Thanks for the info and the GUZ P3 shortcut. I think that your assessment of the mailroom operations at the GUZ (yawn) are spot-on (as mentioned in the Wiki). My better half mailed her own P3 packet to the GUZ on 29 April. On May second, she received an SMS text message from the GUZ acknowledging receipt of her P3 packet. She has yet to receive the P3 packet the GUZ said they were sending to her. It maybe still be laying in some box somewhere in GUZ-land..... So now we are waiting to the P4 packet and making an interview appointment.

Cheers,

appointments are scheduled in batches, depending on how many p3 packets arrive prior.

GUZ IV schedules K-1 visa appointments 2 to 4 times each month, based on caseload and queues.

For now, call DoS Hotline, ask about casefile status. I'm betting that on or around May 17th DoS Hotline will know of her interview date, set somewhere 3 to 5 weeks past that date.

I just got an email for my fiancee who lives in Liaoning province, she said that the P3 packet from the GUZ consulate was finally delivered to her home today. It seems that each of the P3 packets passed each other in the mail. Monday, I will get on the phone to the DoS, and inquire about the P4 packet and scheduling.

Well I called DoS today to inquire about our case file. Unfortunately, today I got a bit of a dour visa specialist. I will say that, at least from my perspective, this was the first somewhat unhelpful person I have spoken to at the DoS. All she would tell me is that GUZ had sent the P3 packet, and was unable to confirm GUZ's receipt of our P3 packet, nor would she comment about the P4 packet, or anything further. Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes. I will roll the dice and call again tomorrow......
