After many months and many complications trying to obtain the documents for my fiance to obtain a passport we've been told that it will be another 50 days before he receives his passport. His interview is scheduled for May 1st. So my question is can he interview without the passport?

You don't think they'll interview him and issue a 221G?

I don't see it happening either; but .. I think the best thing you can do is contact the Embassy, and ask them about it. If you can do it by email, even better, so you get a printable reply (in the event they say YES) to take to the interview good.gif

No....just reschedule the interview for a later date.

I already tried contacting the embassy. Essentially, they refuse to answer questions over the phone. They referred me to the helpline who I have contacted via email, however, haven't received a response. In the past they've simply responded by saying they've sent my email on to the embassy and will get back to me, but they don't.

I wish it were as simple as that, but it's not. I'm currently in India and plan on attending the interview with him, but my 6 month visa expires May 9th, so I have to leave the country then. If we rescheduled I would not be able to be here as I'm not allowed back into the country for two months. Since I am dealing with the Delhi Embassy it is critical to approval that I am here to attend.

One of the things I've dreaded most about this whole process is the lack of communication. If we hadn't emailed the Embassy a few days ago, we never would have gotten an official letter/email/text/smoke sign saying that we had, in fact, been approved. They just sent my passport back and I would have had to wait until it finally arrived to see if there was a visa stamped on it and all the other things...

Off-Topic2.gif I hope they reply to your email quick and give you answers. I'll be praying for you guys rose.gif

If he has to wait 50 days for a new passport, just reschedule the interview for when you are able to come back to the country and he has a new passport. Even if they did interview him and approve him subject to him bringing the passport, they're not giving him a visa without a passport to put it into, and they're not letting him travel to the U.S. without a passport.

More likely they won't even let him in the building without proper documentation. Also they can't interview someone without being sure it's the right person.

He does have several other forms of identification.

Yes, interviewing and approving contingent upon submitting the passport is my hope. I wouldn't expect that they'd give him a visa without a passport, or let him travel to the US.

The application expires May 20th. Since I've just spent six months here I wouldn't be able to come back again for another six months. Can the application be extended for this length of time?

You can ask the consulate to extend the expiration date.

I honestly doubt this will happen, but please let us know the result!
