It's understandable why you would not be up for going. The parent-child relationship (as you know) must be proven between the child and her father, so it certainly isn't going to harm your case by sending your husband. It also is not a requirement that the petitioner be there, as you may recall meeting isn't even one of the conditions for a stepparent to petition a stepchild.

I think her current guardian (sorry I can't remember who that is) could also take her to the interview but whether this would be advisable might be a question for the other Jamaica filers.

Take your time to heal (F)

Thanks everyone. I called the Visa Center. They said since she is 16 no one has to go with her. 15 and under need someone. We will send my husband anyway. Her guaradian has now left to. So thats out! LOL. Poor girl. But I decided hey we just need to send him cuz she will be way too nervous by herself.

You cannot make online payments for your case at this time. Please contact the NVC if you have questions or need further information.

Has anyone else seen this message and should i call or does that just mean they are getting ready to invoice?

No he doesnt have to have legal custody. If you are bringing the child here you just need a notarized letter from the other parent saying that father has permission to leave the country with the child. If he has sole custody and biological mom has no rights you may not even need that.

It depends on the rules in their home country. You would need to check on the requirements Jamaica has for bringing children out of the country as that is what the embassy will be following. For some it is as simple as having a notarized consent letter, for others you do need legal documents/custody papers. In the US it takes both parents to get a passport so it is assumed if the child has a passport they have permission from both parents to leave the country. (I believe parents can put 'holds' on their child's passport if they are worried about an abduction after it was issued).

It would be best to call the embassy and/or wait to hear from other Jamaica filers.

I don't think it happens very regularly but the airline can also request a consent letter from the non-traveling parent so at the very least you might want to have a notarized letter for that purpose.

Hi everyone! Just checked the website and we are approved as of 9/26!!! So it took them exactly one week to approve the case after they received the DNA results from the lab. For those of you who have been asking about DNA, we took the test before we even submitted the I-130 for two reasons. First, I didn't want any surprises at the consulate if you know what I mean. But the main reason we did it is because my husband was never married to the mother of his child and his name was not on the birth certificate. I knew that it would be a long shot for them to approve anything without DNA. I think there's still a chance we could have issues at the consulate, but at that point we'll just repeat the test if needed.

Okay, I need to read up on next steps...

Congrats gdalicia! Fingers crossed they don't make you redo it at the consulate.

Now it's time to enjoy the rite of passage that is NVC :P I hope it goes just as quickly for you.

Thanks! Do any of you guys know about electronic processing? I am trying to read up and my brain hurts. It seems as though I wait for the NVC to send me a letter, then register for electronic processing and then pay/submit documents online?

Logged on this afternoon and AOS Bill was invoiced. Yay one more thing to check off the list. Now waiting for the IV application fee to be invoiced. Hope it doesnt take long. At least things seem to be happening quickly. I cant believe we just started this process on July 5 and we are already to this point. Do you think a December interview date is out of the question? She will be 3 on December 1st. We were going to plan a trip to be there for her birthday but now since everything seems to be moving quicker than we expected we are thinking we might should just wait for the interview date??
