I hope this helps you. I did this process just last year. There are a few steps that you need to do. You need to pay. When you do they will give you a number. I remember calling to get that number. That's the number you will use. When you are almost finished filling out the form and before electronic signature, you must acknowledge reading the Selective Service form.

To schedule your appointment, please check for holidays and closure date and avoid them. The Consulate website have their closure dates listed. Get your medical exam first is best (no appointment required but get there early). Make your ASC apointment date before your interview date.

Good luck.

Thank you! Are you talking about paying the $230 dollars first?

You need to call NVC to request your invoice number and the consulate number (I can't remember exactly how its called) but total you need to get 2 different numbers from NVC. After you get them then you can fill out the DS260 online, schedule appointment and everything.

You must pay this fee just to set-up the appointment. It's for the process not the visa fee.

Effective, Friday, April 13, 2012, there will be changes in the Visa Application Fee (MRV fee). Please note: Any fees paid prior to Friday, April 13, 2012 remain valid for one year from the date of payment. There will be a 90 day grace period after which the difference between the old rate and the new rate must be paid at the Consular Section cashier. No refunds will be available to applicants who paid the higher fee.

The changes in the Visa Application fee (also known as the MRV fee) are:
