What Do Christians Believe?

While a number of recent surveys give us some information on how many Americans express beliefs compatible with literal interpretations of the Bible, they don't tell us whether such beliefs are, in fact, required of Christians by their denominations. Even though the numbers of those polled in the US who say that they accept evolution is about equal with those who accept special creation of humans, the majority of Americans professing to be Christians belong to denominations that accept evolution.

For the record, there's over 61 million Catholics in the U.S. and official position on evolution is that it is valid science.

Do you believe in the traveling zoo-boat also? And the talking snake? And the talking donkey/as$? Tell me, did the whale talk to Jonah during his vacation inside his stomach or are you not sure?

I think you should go ask a donkey! rofl.gif

What is it that you have a problem with? Is it religion in general, or just the mythology of a particular group of religions? Some folks may take the mythology as literal fact, others may just find some insight in the story to help understand a difficult concept. The Jesus of the Christian Bible was fond of parables, stories told to illustrate an idea, or a religious principle. Do any Christians take His stories as historical fact, or do they accept those stories in the manner Christ offered them? If that was how the Pharisees (the Torah literate, of which Jesus was one) taught in a Rabbinic tradition that precedes Christ by more that four centuries, why do you assume the Torah was considered by Him to be any different?

It is probably a combination of them (religious people) not seeing how painfully obvious it is that religion is one huge hoax and also that they deny science/evolution/big bang/gravity/age of earth/etc which makes it even more frustrating. That, and it is fun/enjoyable/easy to make fun of something so silly.

actually its not puzzling at all. as you said i have faith in a higher power. and, that higher power created everything in this world. i also believe its not my place to question why that higher power does or does not do anything. i also have respect for others beliefs. if i agree or not is irrelevant, i show respect to the other person & and their beliefs. the OP on the other hand, attempts to berate & insult anyone that doesn't share his view point. recently he has ramped up his rhetoric, and has proclaimed multiple time that evolution is a proven fact. its been proven time & time again according to him. so, thats why i want to see the undeniable facts. but, as SOG pointed out its not possible. i knew that prior to asking for the proof. the OP knows that people of faith can not prove their beliefs either. so i say show me or at least have the decency to respect others and their beliefs.

That is all I ask also. The OP also knows and has had the whole thread deleted and gotten warnings before for this baiting and trolling.

Want to discuss my faith? Feel free but he is not wanting this, he just wants to belittle and make fun of believers.

Exactly so. But you are casting pearls before a swine, so to speak. The poster has been correctly identified as a troll. He affirms the the fact by writing "it is fun/enjoyable/easy to make fun of something so silly."

Do you believe there were talking donkeys, snakes, and possibly whales? Were apple trees banned? Was Sampson strong enough to tear down a building with girly hair but weak as a child with short hair? Did Noah feed, bathe, and care for a pair of every animal on earth on his traveling zoo-boat? And did Moses have a conversation with a talking bush? These are legitimate questions. Basically, do you literally believe these things happened or were they made up or did God tell the Arabs to write these stories down?

Do I believe in miracles? Yes I do and so what if I do? It does not mean that I have to come in here time after time to be trolled and belittled. By a convenient atheist but a former believer as you said you were. I fell away also my dear brother and found my way back. I have seen some crazy chit in my life. Yes, I believe in miracles and I thank my God for them. So KMA Beotch.

Yes, I believe in miracles and I thank my God for them.

I guess God was too busy to tell the (most likely) hundreds of thousands of people (maybe more) that have killed their children or others because "God told them to!"

Pretty important thing to miss if you are all-knowing and powerful and good, don't you think? It's a monthly thing in Texas I bet... But ya, God takes time out of His busy day of sending 2 people to hell a second (150k-plus dead a day) to help perform miracles in your life... laughing.gif no0pb.gif

trite as his answer was, it's still less ugh than you scrabbling on to these horrid stories, using dead children to grind your axes against religion. you know full well that there is no religion that condoned or called for the death of those children. no one cares what you believe or don't believe. but for **'s sake, leave these kids out of it.

Bravo!good.gifgood.gifgood.gifgood.gifgood.gif
