You do the EAD and AP with the AOS. There is no extra fee for them with the AOS.

what is the normal regular processing time for the EAD? Does it mean that still cant work without EAD? Must I wait for the actual card until I can start applying for work??

yes you need the EAD before you can work, I have heard 3-4 months for EAD. We are planning for 4 months.

Yes, you cannot legally work until you have it

This was our time frame on receiving the EAD card, recently. We applied with our AOS and the AP. The AP was issued on the same card as the EAD for whats called a combo card.

So ours was issued in about 2 and half months.

how about for the AOS, what is the normal processing time? Which takes longer time to be approved is it AOS or EAD? My main concern really is to find work ASAP. So boring here, got nothing really to do after marriage but to wait...

what have u been doing so far aside from waiting?

We're still waiting on the AOS (green card), it is the one that takes longer. Hard to say how long the wait is on that, it depends on what you're adjusting from to. The K1 is currently getting estimated at seven months for the green card, if they forward you to the California Service Center. The letter said it was for faster processing, but just about everyone who has been sent there has waited a lot longer than those that got interviews. My wife is the one from the Philippines and did all the waiting. She's been working for about 6 weeks now though. She did three weeks of assembly work, then got an office job with another firm. She's much happier working in the office. I had told her to not take the assembly job and concentrate on finding work she likes. But she was so bored after not working since September when she got here she wanted to take it. And she was afraid no one would hire a Filipina to do anything beyond physical labor jobs like assembly and cleaning woman. She was getting a lot of bad advice from some locals here, one of which actually tried to demand she become someone's baby sitter at next to nothing wages and crazy hours. Be careful who you associate with in the USA. I know you'll be drawn to others from your country, but some are truly trouble and are not looking out for your best interests. She's found much better friends now here.

oh no :( that's too much idle time... what do u plan of doing for those waiting months? Does the AOS take much longer time compared to EAD?

have u filed SS card yet? If I file two weeks from the time of POE, how soon do I receive it? will it be valid enough for work then?

You should apply for the SS card early or it will delay when you can use your EAD. If you get within 30 days of the i-94 expiring, you can't get one until you get the EAD. You SS card will say not valid for work without Authorization from USCIS. That's where the EAD and Green Card come in. You'll need one of those cards, plus a Social Security Card. After we got married, thats when my wife started getting bored waiting. It was about a month until we had the fee. By January she was searching for work even if she couldn't accept a job yet. The time home alone was really slowly driving her crazy. She's not the type to be happy with being a housewife, that's for sure. I kept saying volunteer at church or something, but she didn't want something that did not pay money. A big part of what bothered her was not bringing any money into the household.

Ya that's lot of idle time, my Fiancee was asking about EAD this morning at breakfast, I told her it will be about 3-4 months AFTER we are married and file AOS. She has always worked, being a housewife in no way appeals to her so it will be a long 3-4 months for her. Luckily she will not be home alone, we will be active enough I am sure to keep her from being bored, I have a few trips on the motorcycle planned.

You sound like my wife. She really really really hated the wait until her EAD arrived. Today she was commenting as I drove her to a Saturday overtime day at work, "Its funny how you can't wait to work, then wish you didn't have to" lol. So I'm just saying, that time might seem boring, but try to enjoy it while you can. Once you start working, you might miss those idle days. But she's still happier working than not working.

Chinook applied for her Social Security number about one week after she arrived in the U.S. Her Social Security card arrived in the mail about ten days later.

She received her EAD about two months after she filed to adjust her status. She received her conditional green card three-and-a-half months after she filed to adjust her status.
