Wow!!! missed that by 2 weeks....paid the 340...oh well, glad they lowered it though.

Hi, does anybody know why the K-1 visa fee was lowered to $240? My fiancee asked me this question and I didn't have an answer. I did some online research but I didn't find anything. Now I'm curious to know.

Changes to Visa Fees

Beginning April 13, 2012, changes to visa fees will take effect. All immigrant visa fees will decrease, while the fees for some nonimmigrant visa categories will increase.

Because the Department of State was able to obtain reimbursement under the Economy Act for services performed on behalf of other federal agencies, immigrant visa fees are decreasing.

The application fees will be assessed based on the date of the payment, not on the date of the visa interview. Since the immigrant and K visa fees are decreasing, no refunds will be given to those who paid the fees before April 13, 2012. http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3023.html

This is the best reason I've found.

Is this fee for the petition that we file stateside or another fee paid at the embassy/consulate level?

Consulate level.

As of today,

I-129F Filing Fee: $340

K-1 Application Fee (to be payed before interview): $240

No we did, we had our interview a week before this happened....just recieved the visa this week and she will be stateside next week. So we paid before and had the interview before this date, but its all good because she will be here soon
