Friends -

The U.S. embassy in Chile has published this article about the change in Visa fees. Has anyone else seen something like this on another gov website??

http://chile.usembassy.gov/2012press0404-visa_fees_change.html

Short Story -

k-1 will go from $350-240 and CR-1 from $330-230.

Any other info about this?

This is correct Department of State changed the fees for the visa. The IV fees got reduced, while, Non-IV raised.

OK, so VJ also has a page about this change (http://www.visajourney.com/news/2012/03/30/us-visa-processing-fees-to-change-on-april-13-2012/), and here is the press release - http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2012/03/187114.htm

However, I have gotten a little confused. It lists the change as $330-230, but as far as I know, the filing fee was $420, not 330 (according to uscis - http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/vgnextoid=c67c7f9ded54d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD).

Is it a different part in the process where one had to pay $330 before and now $230?

This table http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1263.html from Dept. of State gives me the impression that the I-130 app (filing) is 420, and then at another point ("processing," not sure what that means exactly)we must pay 230. At what point is the $230 paid?

Firstly, the I-130 is not an 'app,' it's a petition form. You are correct that the petition filing fee for an I-130 is $420, a fee set by the DHS (Department of Homeland Security).

The $230 (a fee set by the State Department) is paid when the immigrant visa application bill is invoiced. This does not happen until after the NVC has received the case from USCIS and assigned a case number.
