Hello all,

My spouse has an interview date in May at the Mumbai consulate. I have submitted my 2008-2010 tax transcripts at NVC. I have filed an extension for my 2011 taxes. Does anyone know if the consulate will ask for 2011 tax records since the interview date will be past April 17, 2012. If, so what should I do? I do have a copy of the 2011 extension form.

Please help!

Thanks.

My husband has filed an extension too, and I'm taking a copy of the extension form with me for the interview. Pl do let me know if they ask your fiancee for the 2011 tax records.

My latest would be 2010, as I do not have 2011 return due to extension.

All right, if you dont have then that is fine. In case if this question is asked at the time of interview, then just say "as it is" reason. That would be perfectly all right.

The main reason for filing extension was that so when my wife comes to US, we can file married jointly. Does preparing a draft version of 2011 1040 tax return help in any shape? I'm just worried because it says must submit tax records for the most recent taxable year!

We interview on May 1st and I have not filed 2011 taxes either. I don't know if this will be a problem, but to be prepared what I am doing is bringing the tax extension form, previous three years transcrips, and asset documentation that meets the required amount. I don't have paycheck stubs as I've been in India for the past 6 months.

I don't think there's any cause for concern. Just send your wife a copy of the tax extension that you filed. My husband has sent me the same and I'm taking that for the interview.

Thanks Divs. I also plan on sending 2011 W2's+1099, employment letter, recent pay-stubs, recent bank statements and a written letter by me explaining the reasoning for extension. Hopefully all these documentation should be enough to support the case.

The Indian officer did ask my wife for my 2011 tax. She showed them my tax return extension copy and a cover letter I wrote explaining the reason for extension along with my recent pay-stubs and 2011 w2. Didn't have any issues. Her visa was approved this morning!

For those of you with spouses living overseas, did you mail a hardcopy of the tax receipts/proofs to your spouse via courier? Or did you just scan and send your spouse an email copy of the receipt for him/her to print out and take to the interview? I just wasn't sure if originals of tax receipts needed to be brought to the interview or not. Thanks!

Submit what you have with an explanation AND a copy of the extension request AND your w-2/1099 forms for 2011

Guys, what is 1099? My husband has sent me his tax extension, W2, and a letter explaining why he hasn't filed his taxes yet, but I'm not aware of what a 1099 is.
