Never used Jetstar. I've only used Vietnam Airlines to fly domestic within Vietnam. The only problem I've ever had with Vietnam Airlines is that they routinely rob me for extra weight fees at the domestic terminal in HCMC. Interestingly, I've checked the exact same luggage with Vietnam Airlines at the airports in Da Nang, Hue, and Da Lat, and never got charged extra fees.

Another wacky thing they do is at the Hue airport in Phu Bai. They park the plane literally 50 ft. from the terminal, but if it's raining then they make you wait on the plane so you can board a bus to take you to the terminal. Seriously, you can WALK faster than it takes to load up that bus. This isn't limited to Vietnam Airlines. They do the same with Jetstar flights.

We use them often and they are a low cost carrier.. I don't expect alot from the price but they have never given us any problems.. They are however notorious for delays...

Like Jim said, the domestics domake everyone use the buses now... I don't care for that aspect...

what is your/your mom's bad experience? jetstar seems to have gotten worse since i first flew with them in '03. on our trip last year from hanoi-saigon the plane tried to gather speed and take off...but couldn't. they had to take a detour back into the terminal and we had to wait 1.5hrs for problem to be fixed. that was a close one. vietnam air is the better alternative but when you have to make quick bookings and jetstar is at least 33% cheaper for the family you give in to that sultry temptress.

back in 03 it was still Pacific Air...

VN Air is a little more expensive but they never have a problem making changes to the reservation... not always the case with jetstar

plus bags cost like 220k with jetstar. if you plan ahead (like 2 weeks) then vn air and jetstar flights may be at a similar pricepoint. if you feel like flying to hanoi on friday and it's tuesday...jetstar will be cheaper.

30usd/person? that sounds way too cheap we might have to take advantage of those deals when we go back there.

one thing i found interesting when i looked up prices through jetstar online...the USD price was a major ripoff compared to VN dong prices.

Is Jet fuel cheaper than gasoline in Vietnam? $30 is a bargain!

The whole country is the size of California, so even the longest flights are pretty short. I remember flying from Saigon to Da Lat. We never even reached cruising altitude, and they never turned off the seatbelt light. It was like 10 minutes taking off and 10 minutes landing with no cruising in between. It also helps if they skip the routine maintenance on the planes.

They do it to fill seats when they need to get the planes somewhere.... check out the Friday email specials... It was just over 30 bucks and we had to pay tax on top of that... total tax and all was just over a hundred USD RT for the 3 of us.. We have had similar specials from HaNoi to HCMC and back...

I had to shift some checked luggage to carry on to avoid fees. My carry on was probably about 40lbs. I just took everything heavy out of my checked luggage and moved it to carry on.

be careful trying that on an international return flight.. They have been enforcing the 12 Kg total limit on carry on lately... Made me check a carry on at a cost of 200usd per extra bag...

I only did it on domestic, since vn airlines has a much lower checked baggage weight than international. Then transferred stuff back when going international.

The customer service with Jetstar is pretty bad. I paid a little more with Vietnam Airline and was satisfied with it. In any case, I won't be flying Jestar again.
