thank you all for the help!

after reading this and thinking about it. it does seem kinda iffy because of the

unemployment.

so my sisters boyfriend said he would help me out.

in 2011 he earned about 50,000

in 2010 he earned about 43,000

and 2009 he earned about 53,000

and he files single on his taxes so its just him and with the intending immigrant it would be a total of 2.

this would work right? i understand that we could use a friend as a joint sponsor

Depends on whether he currently has this job. You don't qualify based on past income. You qualify based on current income.

yes he has a job with the same company he has been with for the

last 4 years. so he should be getting around 40,000-50,000 for 2012

Then probably OK but you need to stop thinking about what he "will get" for 2012. There is no such question on the affidavit. His current income is what it is, currently.

his year to date on his last pay stub was 18,564

so its asking me his current annual income.

so if i am right it would be

18,564/4(months that have passed) =4,461

and 4,461/12(months of year) = 55,692 would be his current annual income.

am i right?

Something like that but 4 months have not passed yet. How to annualize income depends on how one gets paid. If it's hourly, you just take the gross hourly rate times 2080. 2080 is 40 hours a week times 52 weeks. If the income is other than hourly, it depends on how he's paid. You don't assume he'll continue to work the same amount of overtime. Just state the 40 hours per week income for an hourly employee and use the pay stub to show this. Keep in mind there are two income sections on the form, past and present.
