Have I lost my Passport?

Hi All,

Sorry if this may seem a dumb question, however I sent my UK passport to the Washington embassy so that my name could be changed to my married name.

I sent it to:

Regional Passport Processing Centre, Washington DC

19 Observatory Circle, N.W.

Washington DC 20008

I sent it via Express Mail yesterday however I didn't know to waiver the signature. There was an attempt to deliver it today but said it could not be delivered as there was no one there to authorize it. I called up USPS and they said they don't understand why it wasn't authorized as they have a firm accunt with them, whatever that means? As its the weekend what will happen now?? I just don't want it stuck somewhere and getting lost :( Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

They will continue to attempt delivery for so long. With the USCIS it is standard procedure to note delivery attempt one day followed by signing for the letters the next day. I guess they build up a list of all the letters requiring signing and one signature is used for the entire list then. It could be your embassy has the some process, and Monday it will be signed for.
