Hi everyone,

I arrived in San Diego last night, after a quick and smooth visa journey! I'd like to thank everyone on VJ for helping us every step of the way, and answer any question I had (and I had a lot...).

Special thanks to Saylin, the NVC fairy, who guided me (and thousands of others) through the NVC jungle, and gave me the right advice at the right time so I didn't lose weeks waiting for a missing document.

POE was easy and fun, not a single question asked, CBP officers were very nice and joking with me, although they were obviously not very familiar with immigrant visa process.

Indeed, they didn't handwrite my alien registration number on my passport, next to the "endorsement" stamp... I'm a little worried I might need this number to start working/driving/whatever?

After digging on the web for a while, I found that the alien number is actually the "registration number" written on the visa sheet itself, and you just add an "A" in front, and if necessary a 0 to have 9 digits. So that if the registration number is 12345678, the alien number would be A012345678. Is that true? Can someone check for me?

CR1 Visa

USCIS STAGE: 16 days No expedite request but USC residing abroad
NVC STAGE: 19 days from case # to case complete

Thats weird it should have been. Regardless it will be on the green card when you get it.

Can someone still check if the registration number on their IR1/CR1 visa matches the A#, for peace of mind?

And do I have to walk around with my passport with me at all times until I receive the GC?

Unfortunately, yes you have to carry it around under INA 264(e), because you are now an LPR and it is a "certificate of alien registration or alien registration card".
