If the person I just married a few weeks ago has a work visa sponsored by a science lab at a university (he is European) and has lived in the United States for 5 years, what form do I need to fill out to apply for a green card? Is the green card then valid for 2 or 10 years? I am a US citizen--so new at this and do not have the funds to hire a lawywer. Thanks.

2 years if you are married less than 2 years.

10 years if you are married more than 2 years.

You married a few weeks ago so he would get a 2 year green card and have to remove conditions before expiration.

Please follow the step by step guide here http://www.visajourn...tent/i130guide2

He also needs a full immigration medical done by a listed civil surgeon to include with the I-485 package.

Moved from Work visas as the OP wants to apply for adjustment of status not another work visa. Placed in adjustment of status from work / student / tourist forums.
