I am new to visa journey and I have questions that I need help on. My wife came to the US with a K-1 visa and we just got married in March. Next step is the AOS. My questions are: Does she need immunization shots because she does not have a record of her immunizations. How much will a civil surgeon charge for immunizations if she needs them( she did get a physical in Mexico in December). Does her birth certificate need to be translated to english? If so where can they translate it? Can she apply for a social security once she applies for the AOS? Any help is appreciated!

Welcome on VJ,

Does she have a copy of her vaccination record (DS-3025 I think) from her K-1 medical?

Yes, her birth certificate needs to be translated in english. If she is or you are competent to translate it, she/you can do it, including a letter where you certify you are competent to translate. Otherwise, you need to make some research to find a competent certified translator.

She can apply for a SSN right now, no need to wait for the AOS paperwork to be sent.

If you don't know it, read the AOS VJ guide, and for sure, the USCIS instructions.

You should apply for the SSN well before the I-94 expires. If it gets too close to expiring you'll need to wait until she gets her EAD or green card. As to vaccinations, if you have insurance at work and get her on it. Vaccines are generally wellness care and cost you nothing, but check your policy. A civil surgeon is probably going to get a good price if she's never had any.

Yeah unfortunately, Mexico doesn't deal with vaccinations or give the DS-3025, unless it is blank. You do not need a full medical again, but you need to see a civil surgeon to get the shots she needs and have them fill out an I-693 that you need for AOS. A lot will try and tell you that a new medical is required and charge you for it. Try calling around until you can find someone willing to do the vaccinations for you without insisting on the new medical and overcharging you. You might have to call around several places, and even check civil surgeons that are a longer driving distance away. You can print out the I-485 and I-693 instructions to prove she does not need a whole new medical, just the vaccinations.

If she has at least 2 weeks left on her I-94, then get the SSN now: http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

If either of you are fluent in both English and Spanish, then you can translate her birth certificate yourselves: http://www.visajourney.com/content/translations
