One of the things I learned from my K1 Visa Application I filed in December is that the USCIS wants an OFFICIAL copy, not a phtocopy of your birth certificate.

My mother was good enough to keep my Birth Certificate all these years....way back to 1971 and I still have the original.

Yet I am asked for an offical copy with a seal on it from the Hall of Records where I was born. Actually its the Health Department but the USCIS people don't know. They just read from scripts. They're almost inhuam automatons of the State.

Anyway, if you want to speed things up, go ahead and get an offical copy from the Health Department of the State where you were born. This applies to United States Citizens. I have no idea what you do if you are a foreigner. Probably get an offical one from your own country's records or health department.

So don't bother with the original if you happen to still have it.

Hope it helps someone,

-Darren

Don't send the original in the packet. Send a Copy from the State and County where you were born (Petitioner Only). The interview, I cannot comment as we have not gotten to that stage yet.

With the 129 application, copy, front and back is required (not original). For interview, fiancee should bring original and copy. If they take original, they are suppose to return it.
