As I'm scanning through the many forums I'm reading that people have had appointments for their biometrics to get their fingerprints done and some have just walked in before their appointment dates and are getting it done with little or no wait. Really? Why do they make appointments if this can be done? Is there any advantage to this? Can it really speed up the process? Just wondering.

No advantage, it does not speed up the process because the center does not have your case file until the appointment date.

Not everyone can do this as not all centers allow it. Most places only allow it if you have proof you cannot make your original appointment.

I would argue with Inky saying to does not speed up things - I did walk in two days after I received notice (almost 3 weeks ahead of schedule date) and got my interview notice before biometrics schedule date. Interview was 2 months after filing the date - kind of quick to me but maybe I am wrong...

Interesting responses. Thank you.

Doesn't make any difference to me as I'm not in a hurry anyway. The bio office for me is 2 hours drive away so I will go on scheduled appointment date and just go with the flow as the USCIS deem fit. I have 2+ years remaining on my 10yr green card so no panic on my part to get this done. I was just curious.

Thanks all. :)
