Hello,

So my situation is as follows: I'm an international (Pakistani) MA student in Canada. I am now considering accepting an offer at a PhD program in the US. (I don't know if this matters, but my undergraduate degree is also from the US.) My Canadian study permit is valid until November of this year. What I'm wondering is whether I should go ahead and apply for the US F1 visa from here, or whether I should go back to my home country. (I don't know if this is a factor either, but I already have a B1 visa in my passport, and I got that stamped here in Canada.)

Does anyone have any experience in a case like this, or know of anyone who has been in a similar situation?

Thanks,

I don't have any personal experience with this matter, but I don't see any reason why in your situation you wouldn't be able to apply for an F-1 from Canada.

Only Canadian citizen are allowed to apply F1 Visas from canada. Infact Canadian can apply within the US and get it authorized by us and canada border. So you have to return to your homeland and gi through proper channel.

I would apply in Canada.

Likely to be a lot easier and quicker than Pakistan.

Boiler - I oculd be wrong but if the OP is not a CA resident or citizen he might have to apply thru his home country.

As far as I m aware only CA resident or Citizen can apply thru Canada.

OP - if you are on visa in Canada you might want to call the US consulate and explain your case and ask them if theu would accpet your application or not.

You can for every other type of visa.
