Sanford is bracing for Special Prosecutor’s Announcement on Trayvon Martin

The city of Sanford, Fla., is preparing for unrest ahead of a special prosecutor’s announcement on the fate of Trayvon Martin’s killer, George Zimmerman.

While it is unclear when Angela Corey will announce her decision, Sanford Mayor Jeff Triplett said that he had met with emergency management teams and the federal Department of Justice to “prepare for the worst,” WMKG reported.

“We’re planning for the ‘what-if’ case scenario and that would be to make sure all of our citizens get the protection they pay their taxes for,” the Mayor told reporters on Thursday.

A decision about charges could spark violence, though a series of protests against the shooting have been peaceful.

Late last month, a fringe group called the New Black Panthers offered a $10,000 reward for the "capture and citizen's arrest" of Zimmerman.

In Sanford, residents had mixed feelings about the impending decision.

"People march, but this is a new day and age and not too much is going to happen," Tommy Oliver told WTSP-TV.

Other residents aren't so sure.

"Yeah I'm worried if he's not charged (that) we're gonna have trouble in this town," another resident, Jimbo Carter told the TV station.

If they come out and announce, "Hey, guess what, the police did their job and no charges will be filed" it's likely that we'll see riots and people burning down their own neighborhoods (not necessarily in Sanford though) and we'll be right back where we were before this all started.

No kidding nothing exacerbates White flight more than seeing your city in flames and people dragged from their cars -beaten and raped.

That riot of 67 is what began the downward spiral of Detroit.
