The problem is that Buchanan (and others as demonstrated here) see cultural identity as inseparable from the people who immigrate to this country, just as they see being White and Christian as an American tradition of identity. This goes beyond any underlying racial bigotry. It's believing that this country was founded by White Christians and our current immigration policies have eroded that foundation. While such views are similar to those from Stormfront, many Americans identify with the sense that our country is being taken over by non-white immigrants who want to make this country look like back home, no matter how much integration or assimilation they willingly go through. You can see some of that sentiment expressed when people insist on referring to Obama as a Kenyan Muslim. They imagine that one's cultural/ethnic identity is a stronger force than whatever America has to offer them. Labeling the President a non-christian foreigner is a way to galvanize such fears over multiculturism - that it's gotten so out of hand, that even the highest office in the land has been stained.

You don't have to be a card carrying member of the KKK to share some common views about multiculturalism. If you believe that an influx of non-white, non-christian immigrants have contributed to the erosion of American values, then you and those on Stormfront are in agreement. If that makes you uncomfortable about your views, then perhaps you should rethink them. If it doesn't, then more power to you.

There's a world of difference between opinion and breathing air, but I suppose to some, there's no difference. Groups like Stormfront and NumbersUSA have been behind many of these anti-immigrant initiatives and legislation, and their strategy has been successful - by finding common ground among regular Americans who fear that this country is losing its cultural identity and want to do something about it.

I have said Blacks have a historical place in this country, they are as American as it gets but lets not kid ourselves, Blacks did not found this country, our form of Government was not inspired by Africans, It was not our Native Americans who penned the Bill of Rights.

I know it pains you to hear the truth but let me repeat it again. This country was founded by Europeans on both a Christian and a collection of European ideas. It was never intended to be a flophouse for the world but rather as the preamble says- "to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Our Laws, our language our Faith and our customs came from Europe.

The very first immigration act limited immigration to whom Steve?

Immigration policy up until 1965 was tilted heavily in favor of Europeans.

In 1960 this country was nearly 90% European american and equally as Christian. Even Ted Kennedy stood and promised the American people that the passage of that act in 1965 would not alter the racial composition of our country...... that our cities would not become places of full of the worlds immigrants.

Why would he say that if the intent was all along for this country to look like the United nations?

Why would the Chief Liberal of our time (ted Kennedy) assure the country that the ethnic composition would not change... if it was a national goal all along?

Those are all just historical realities, for some reason you wince that I mention them,,,,, though I hear no challenge only slurs.

But our past does not dictate our future, we are free to steer a different path and in fact we have.

In many ways our inter-ethnic harmony ... (though newly expanded) is doing better than most other places in the world. But make no mistake about it's an experiment, one in which there is no return.
