Just received our interview appointment letter today. My wife went to the Embassy this morning and they gave her a letter for her interview date and one for my step-daughter. The date is May 7.

They have their medical exam tomorrow afternoon. My wife has obtained the necessary records to show that my step-daughter is current on her vaccinations. My wife doesn't have her own records so she will likely be getting some shots tomorrow.

We have had a very pleasant experience with the Santiago Embassy so far. We requested an expedite at the NVC because they originally rejected the divorce decree we had submitted. This caused a 1 week delay in our case which caused us to miss the interview assignments window during the first few days of the second week of april. Our expedite was approved within 2 days and the Embassy contacted us the day they received the case from the NVC.

I'm convinced that had the Santiago Embassy processed our visa petition from the start that we would have been done in under a month instead of 9 1/2 months.

The Embassy told me that it wouldn't be necessary for me to attend the interview, but i'm going anyway. I want to escort my wife and step-daughter through POE and I was able to find a plane ticket for a reasonable price even with the short notice.

If all goes well with the medical and interview my wife will be in the US with me on 5/16

Hehe I know! Most of the people I was taking the tests and medical examination with they had interviews this week, I was the only one for May :( I guess I was the only one from Bogota and had that privilege to do it earlier...

For your wife...if she has all the vaccines it will be easier, I got all of them at International Red Cross but most of the people I was with they took the missing vaccines at "Cardio infantil" (hospital) same building I had the appointment, the doctor sent people to take the vaccines in the same building, I guess is cheaper and they are valid too...my advice...taking them soon, because when I got them I got sick, so the sooner the better for the body to recover, don't know it's my advice because I got really sick with all that bunch of vaccinations...

If she has any question about that step I can help ;) I wish I had someone to ask about that process here in Bogota, it's scary when you don't know.

Oh and if she wears glasses...bring them!!! I wear them only for computer and didn't bring them and of course they took that eye test (reading letters), it was painful for me without my glasses :crying: ...just saying

Thank you so much for all that great information. I am actually planning to have my wife get all the vaccines two weeks prior to the Medical Exam with the Panel Physician, which in my opinion, would allow her enough time to recover in the even she has a negative reaction or gets sick (hopefully she doesn't but you never know) ... Good Luck!

Nah! But it's important to have clean lungs so lots of honey and hot drinks ;)

Wow! I just realized you have your appointment 1 week prior to mine that's awesome. So please expect I will be "piggybacking" you with a lot of questions about how the actual process went on interview date. If you don't mind of course.

Less than two weeks for the interview and four days for the medicals. Though I still have a cold, I think I'll be totally cured in time for the medicals. Evidence printed - truck loads at that - and sorted/organized. Albums organized as well. I think I'm good to go. Bring it on!!!!good.gifgood.gifgood.gif

Can't wait to be in your guys' shoes... still almost a month until our interview :(

Most of the time I'm distracted by being in grad school, but some nights (like tonight) I'm just so lonely. I'm so tired of waiting.

I can imagine Stephanie. I have under two weeks, and strangely am not the least bit tense. In fact, I'm feeling super relaxed at the moment. The way I see it, I think I've covered all the bases. Hope things remain status quo as the day approaches. Wish you all the very best.

Question for Colombians...

Do you know what papers exactly to bring to the embassy the day of the interview???

I'm a little lost with it...letter from NVC says I don't have to bring any paper but that letter, but I have read most of people bring many things and the embassy asks for them...

My biggest question is...do I have to ask for immigration records again, that's my only concern because other than that I have pretty much everything but that one, which was a closed envelope I was told not open and sent just like that to NVC.

"IMMIGRATION RECORDS: Applicants who have been denied admission to the United States, requested extensions, changed status, applied for asylum, been deported, or granted voluntary departure from the United States must bring all relevant documents from the Department of Homeland Security or the immigration judge."

The list I found is this:

  • Appointment Letter received from the NVC
  • Passport(s) valid for six months beyond the intended date of entry into the United States
  • Police Certificate(s)
  • Birth Certificate(s)
  • Court and prison records, if applicable
  • Military records, if applicable
  • Color photographs
  • Marriage Certificate, if applicable
  • Evidence of financial support (e.g. Affidavit of Support, a notarized offer of employment, or evidence of assets)
  • Divorce decree or death certificate of spouse, if applicable
  • Family-based cases: All original documents establishing the relationship between the petitioner and the applicant
  • Employment-based cases: A currently valid letter from the prospective employer confirming the essential elements of the job offer

We are trying to get all our papers together but we are kind of lost :help:
