Most of what I've read suggests you'll get it back within 3-4 days, but I would give yourself at *least* two full weeks.

If you can, see if you can find tickets that are cheap to exchange so that if something goes wrong (if they need some additional piece of paperwork at the embassy and that delays things), you don't feel as frantic.

Ultimately, though, you have to figure that buying a plane ticket now and being forced to exchange it for a fee may be cheaper than buying a plane ticket at the last minute!

I was thinking of booking tickets for the week of June 11th (so that's 4 weeks after the interview) does that sound reasonable inso far as leaving time? Or would I be better off making it the week after (the week starting the 18th)?

And you're totally correct about the tickets--I priced them earlier last month and in the time since--for the same range of travel rates they've gone up by another 200gbp :(

Nica,

I actually called before they received my case, and they said to send an email and they'd deal with it when my case was put into the system, which according to the email reply to my email, was today. As for the reasons, I let them know that we found out that we're expecting twins, Emily is out of work in the US, and that I have a job lined up to start in June, and my late May interview date was going to put that in jeopardy. So yes, I did have a few reasons, and I am definitely glad that I send the email! Hope this helps

Oh, the interview is more than proving real love. Some people go to interview very naive and expecting to walk out with a visa, but that's not always the case. Denials happen more often than are posted on VJ, trust me. I've done my homework..

hi I could not help but notice how much you seem to know based on all you read about the interview. I will really like your input on my situation and tell me if you think i would end up needing a waiver or would it result in a total denial.

I went to the US in 2008 to visit my (then boyfriend, now husband) and got 3 months to remain there on my I 94. I filed in a timely manner to the USCIS california asking for an extension. Since my file was being processed i remained in the US until i received the answer. Meanwhile when the notice came back to me this time it was negative. I booked a ticket and left for my home country immediately. In 2009 I traveled yet again on my B1B2 visa stayed almost 6 months and returned to my home country. I traveled again to the US in 2010 and again stayed for another 6 months on my B1 B2 visa. Now 3 days after getting married to him in my home country I traveled with him and was blocked and sent into a separate room for questioning at the airport.

To make a long story short I was told that i over stayed my time in the US back in 2008 and is now in breech of my visa. Even though i told them I did file in a timely manner and was out of the country after getting my refusal. I traveled on 2 other occasions after that and yet this is being told to me now. They did not hesitate to cancel my visa. i was given an opportunity to withdraw my application to enter the US and was sent back on the next flight out of the US. I am in my home country now while my husband USC file for me to be there with him, I was married on saturday 11june 2011 to a US citizen. I was told by the immigration people that i am not being bared from reentering for any number of years all i got to do is have my husband file for me. My question here is .. will my husband have problems when filing my papers even though that immigration officer told me he should not? i am not an illegall immigrant, never been in prison, break any laws or anything like that. Just a Passengerr who was not given entry to the US because of an over stay of 6 weeks because I was awaiting their responce to my request for an extension.

Will I have a hard time the day of my interview?

Your overstay was less than 180 days, so you do not have a ban. But you are no longer eligible to travel to the US as a visitor. You have to wait for your immigrant visa to be approved. That is easily explainable to the interviewing officer and he should be able to see your application for extension from 2008 on file. Just explain the situation exactly as you did to border control.

Adding us to the list - DH's interview scheduled for 22nd May!

We will bring it anyway, but none of the lists on the London Embassy's website indicate a need for evidence of an ongoing relationship. Have those filing direct with the NVC - have their document lists explicitly listed a request for evidence?

The one downside of having all the timelines available is that it really impacts the way I react to people worrying/stressed/waiting... you filed your I-130 in January and you're already at the interview stage?! We had to wait 7.5 months just for the NOA2!! We got married in June and we've gotten to spend a grand total of 10 days in each others' presence since the honeymoon. And a lot of people wait even longer!

I guess my point is to relax. You'll probably hear about your interview date this week, but if you have to wait until next month, you're still making pretty amazing time with this whole process. :P

I want my wife with me here right now! and yes! I don't care what you think about my timeline and if I have waited "enough" or not compared to other people. Just live your life and stop being so jealous ... you have no idea what my special circumstances are so don't judge and I'm not here to "explain" to you my personal and private life because you have no right to know about it. Deal with it!

I'm not jealous of you. I just think that you should consider your audience before complaining about how long it's taking you. I have a right to be pissed off that the system isn't just - and that includes being pissed off that someone can go through the I-130 in one-seventh the period of time it took us. Do I have to deal with the system being unjust? Yes. Do you have to deal with other people being pissed off when you get to skate in line in front of them? Yes. I think you're getting the better end of that bargain.

Incidentally, I don't think anyone should have to wait as long as you've waited (much less as long as we've waited, or how long the people going through AP wait), but that's how the system works right now.
