How would you estimate your current income?

I'm curious how you estimate your current income when it asks for it on the i-864 if your paychecks are not always exactly the same due to number of hours, overtime, etc? Is it safe to add up the amount from paychecks this year to date, divide by number of paychecks to get the average, then multiply by number of paychecks this year(26)? Submitting check stubs for the last 6 months in addition to tax transcipts.

July 2005 - met my awesome, hot, amazing love in Lousiana.
July 2006 - Married said love and moved to Canada.
June 2011 - Entered US to visit family, decided to stay.
Feb. 2012 - Sent paperwork to Chicago.

May 2012 - Received green card.

Ok, the averaging was what I was wondering about. Wasn't sure how everyone else handled that.

The tax return only shows what was made last year, this is the part asking about current income :)

Yeah, sure, I was just meaning if it's the same type of job it would also show that your average is about right...
