First time try to quit success rate is 9% but the key is repeated trials just like trying to quit any other addiction.

Benefits of smoking? Protection against Alzheimer`s and Sarcoidosis.Is it worth it? I don`t know, that`s something each person decides for themselves.

A year ago i decided i`d rather go through withdrawal from nicotine than deal with all the health issues that come along with smoking (cancers of lungs, oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, stomach,cervical, pancreas,kidney, ureters, bladder; cardiovascular diseases, COPD and so on) but it was certainly a lot easier said than done. I stayed addicted to nicotine for a few more months after i stopped smoking (nicotine gum) and slowly reduced the dose. I`m not using nicotine anymore but i do find myself craving a cigarette sometimes.

I would certainly advice any smoker to quit but i do get why they can`t. It`s a trial and error process until you find something that works but the key is to keep trying. And the guilt trip way doesn`t work.

Edit: "fun" fact: smoking is number one cause of preventable premature dreath in USA.Just something to think about.

Good for you, I'm glad that you quite. I'm an ex smoker myself. I quit about 15 years ago and it was hard to do. You'll still get the occasional craving here and there for for a few years, but it passes in a few seconds, easy to resist. I agree with you that focusing on the health issues is a good incentive to quit.
